OK….so here is the thing. One of my friends decided to install SP2, the installation according to him went ok except that it told him that “something was missing” but he clicked ok and the installation finished it self up. And at the end of the installation, it asked him to restart the computer. Now the funkyness is that when he restarted his computer a screen came on with the “Something is wrong with your computer” stuff and it asked him to pick between safe mode, start windows normally, or use last good configuration, and the thing is no matter which option he picks, the computer just restart and bring him back to the same screen. Anyone know how to fix this WITHOUT formatting the computer?
He’s running Windows XP
Thanks
Insert the Windows XP disk, boot off of the CD, on the first screen hit then F8, then it will give you the option to repair the windows install, do so. The install will look a lot like the Windows XP install, because it is – but he won’t lose any data, or installed programs.
A repair is basically just a ‘refresh’ of all the system files.
Thanks….I’ll ask him to try right now……
–edit–
ok this might sound like a really stupid question and it probabely is..but how do you boot from CD?
You’ll have to enable it in the system BIOS, check the manual. You probably have to hit the DEL or F1 key to enter the BIOS, once in there, navigate around and find ‘boot order’, or ‘startup order’, or ‘boot sequence’.
Thank you…..I’ll ask him to try.
Let me know if it works out for you. =)
