Telnet is used mainly to hack into peoples pc’s via trojans, and if you have a firewall it will do you no good, if you are trojaned. When someone says “I need to find my IP” I wouldn’t be suspicious, he’s wanting to find someone elses IP, not his, and if it’s his grandparents, and he already installed telnet on their pc, i think he woulda gotten their ip then. When someone asks how to find someone elses IP, and is talking about wanting to connect to them with telnet that is EXTREMELY suspicious, i remember a friend of mine, who resorted to using trojans cause he had been trojaned himself, and he couldn’t get the trojan to send back the targets IP and port. I would bet a large sum of money that this kid is up to no good.

That’s exactly why I told him how to find their IP via that website. It will only work with coöperation of the remote site. Thus, it is of no help to him if he wants to hack.
Other than that, a firewall can perfectly help you against trojans. If people from the internet want to do something on your PC, they need to connect to the machine with the trojan first. If the firewall notices it (and a good one will), it might dislike it (again, a good one will) and the trojan can’t be accessed. Good firewalls will INDEED block TelNet ports, unless specified otherwise.
It’s pretty clear what the guy is doing here, and to help him out is only throwing gas onto the fire, if he knows this person he is targeting, then it won’t take much for him to get them to goto the site and tell them their ip by lying to them(people really are ten times stupider then you think in revealing personal info that can be used against them). This kid is an amatuer wannabee hacker, that’s putting it mildly, lmao, isn’t it odd how 20 other people on this site chose not to tell this guy how to get someone elses IP, but then you do a week later? And i have known a LOT of people with firewalls that have been trojaned, and it didn’t prevent them from being hacked. If he gets their IP, next he will be on here asking how to do a port scan LMAO! This thread shoulda been locked long ago, needs to take this ? to some reject wannabee hacker site.

I don’t think this is just suspicious because IP was mentioned. I wrote a page here about what IP address is http://www.freddys-utilities.co.uk/ipaddress.php and clearly state I think IPs are useless. So you have my IP, what now? I have no trojans installed, nothing is going to connect, plus I have a firewall.
I just think that his/her intentions are to try and hack, not that they will be successful. But to say you can’t work out winipcfg, but have successfully set up two telnet clients to transfer files (which is not possible, as they are clients not servers) is weird.
Sounds suspicious to me too, so how come last time when you were there and setting it up you didnt get there ip addy? And unless they are half way accross the country from you or a diff state or whatever all together why not just go over there. I agree with johnson he sounds like a very wannabe hacker.
Ask your grandparents to goto http://www.showmyip.com, it automatically gives their IP add. 🙂
