MemberMight try the following, took a bit of digging to find but I’ve gotten from good sources that it does work.
NetMeeting – Run, Remove and Reinstall
Run: Start/Run/conf.exe
Remove: Start/Run/RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:WINDOWSinfmsnetmtg.inf,NetMtg.Remove
Reinstall: To reinstall, open the WindowsInf folder (this is a hidden folder, so you may need to adjust your Folder Options
to show hidden files and folders. Or you can click Start, Run and enter %systemroot%Inf). Locate the
msnetmtg.inf file in the Inf folder. Right click and select Install. Have your XP CD handy.Tip: Clear Netmeeting Call History – Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftConferencingUICallMRU. Open your registry and delete the key
mentioned. Restart Netmeeting for the change to take effect.October 20, 2002 at 7:25 pm #66500Anna

Or you could go here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/netmeeting/download/nm301x86.asp – and follow the instructions.
This is the current version of NetMeeting that’s installed by default in WinXP.October 20, 2002 at 10:51 pm #66511Misty
MemberThanks Jeff, for posting my question and thanks to windaphoner and evainefaye for your responses. I have tried both of your suggestions, neither worked. NM3.01 can’t be installed on a machine with XP, and installing netmeeting via right clicking on the msnetmtg.inf file should have worked although the files needed were not found on the XP CD. I hope someone has some more ideas/suggestions. I’d really appreciate any help you can give. Thanks…

MemberList the files that its looking for, might be able to come up with something.
In any event, sometimes when its looking for a file you will also find that the file in question is already on your hard drive, but it wants to look on the CD-Rom, try doing a find for the files :).

Memberevainefaye, thanks for your reply. Your help is much appreciated! In response to your suggestion, I’d like to list what’s needed in hopes of getting help, but the install asked for every single file (and there were a ton of them). I worked on finding them for hours, (searching online, in old files, on the CD, on old hard drives with netmeeting, etc). I found some, but was ultimately unsuccessful and was up way too late doing it. 😀 Reinstalling netmeeting on XP seems like an issue that would be fairly common. I’m surprised this has become so difficult. Any other ideas??

MemberI’ll uninstall it on my home machine tonight and figure out how to get it reinstalled. How did you go about uninstalling it to begin with so that I can duplicate your method?

Memberevainefaye, I went to add/remove programs and uninstalled. Previously, I’d installed an older version of nm (2.1?) and thought I was uninstalling that one, but I ended up uninstalling both of them anyway. I’m very curious as to what you will encounter when re-installing netmeeting on XP. Good luck, and please let me know how I can fix this silly problem. Thanks for your help!

MemberI’ll work on it this evening. I got delayed last night with appointments I had planned. I assume you installed nm 2.1 before you had installed XP, and then you upgraded to XP? Otherwise I’m not sure how you would do this, especially because not only should 2.1 not have installed under XP, you also shouldn’t see it in add/remove programs normally.
I’ll do a bit of digging for an answer here too (I work in technical support at Dell) maybe someone here has an answer.

I’m going to go get a system out of the lab here and see if I can ruin it :).

MemberWell I just went through the uninstall process I listed above, and then did the reinstall process listed above. It stopped at looking for CB32.exe. I pointed the system to look at D:i386 (D: being my CD-Rom drive of course), and it didn’t ever ask for another file.
If its still not working for you, I’d be happy to work with you via IM or phone, whatever works best :).

MemberAmazing that you had no problems. This is what I encountered tonight. I uninstalled and reinstalled, (again), according to the website you posted. When reinstalling, I pointed it to look at D:I38 (CD ROM). Once inside that folder, 8 folders were found. It wanted the correct path. I looked inside each one the other night (I didn’t do hours of it again tonight) and msh263.drv (the first one asked for) was not found. This went on with each file needed. I got about half way through the list last time (with downloading files from here and there….anywhere) and finally gave up. It’s doing the same thing tonight. Help! I’d be glad to call you or IM you, etc. I can’t Thursday, (it’s my birthday!), but possibly can Friday or after. Thanks a million for your incredible willingness to help!

MemberHmmmm not sure what that file is. I did find it on my system in the C:winntsystem32 directory, but its definately not in an easily found directory on the CD-Rom. Let me do some checking with some friends on any ideas, but at this point you may just be better off backing up, formatting, and reinstlling.

XP needs to be re-installed.December 22, 2002 at 12:52 am #66513Kike
