ParticipantIS there a way to tell how many people are watching someone else’s cam? Just a curious thought.

MemberI don’t believe so, no. If it was possible, it’d be a major breach in privacy.

MemberThere may not be a passive way to find this information out but there is an active more intrusive way. In theory all you would have to do is find an open cam (where it’s set to auto-accept ALL cam view requests) and fill the cam up until you get the “Cam is Full” message code. Since you get an accept message back for each successful cam view request that was accepted you could subtract the amount of successful requests that you sent to fill the cam up from the maximum number of users per cam and you’d know how many were viewing before you filled up the cam. 😎

KeymasterFirst of all, the “auto-accept all requests” option is not the default (thank God). Most people don’t want random, anonymous people watching them, and I wouldn’t recommend using that setting for your webcam.
So most of the webcams out there will not let you use the technique mentioned by Torseq Tech.
Torseq Tech, you left out one important detail (assuming you find a webcam set to auto-accept all requests). What is the maximum number of users?

MemberIf I remember correctly, the maximum amount of users is 40. But lately, Yahoo has made some changes to the way cams work.
For example, anonymous users cannot view cams anymore. Also, you cannot view your own cam anymore.

KeymasterSo the short answer to the original question is… “no.” 🙂

MemberThe max cam viewer count per cam I believe is either 40, 49 or 50. I believe it’s either the foremost or the latter, I’d have to double check. While it may not be the default setting, Jeff, it isn’t very hard to find ‘open’ cams with such a setting in use (auto-accept cam view requests) and used to be even simpler when user-created rooms were around.
PS: I double checked with Chet (author of Y!TunnelPro) and according to him it’s 50 so we’ll say 50 until I check personally (it’s been 2 years since I’ve looked into it myself).

ParticipantWhy anybody would want 50 people watching them is beyond me.
Im glad the anonymous webcam function has been removed and as for watching myself on cam, thats pretty odd aint it haha.
i think yahoo will change some of its limits in due time.
the 300 bytes post limit though was a bit steep if you ask me.
