ParticipantI have more to add to this topic.
First off this applies to all things that require a password. I suggest instead of any full names or simple passwords a combination of letters and numbers. If you can use html commands that is even better – Who thinks to try those when someone wants to crack your email, IM name anyhow. The best passwords are made random and right there on the fly –

Depending on your situation you can ethier write it down or store it in your computer in an encrypted file. Unless you have a photographic memory you are going to forget this in about 5 minutes anyhow. Another thing is never use the same password for another account. If someone cracks one account they just have to work that much harder to crack others they may know about. If you have one password for them all then they can hit you hard. NEVER NEVER NEVER give your passwords to anyone especially your best friend. If you piss em off they may come and steal so many names its not even funny! Then you make em pay $5.00 for each one he wants back. Never underestimate the power of stupidity. 😎

MemberMake passwords long, multi case, numbers and letters, and random nonsense, password crackers use dictionaries first, then some may go on to sytematically go through all combinations.
If you use all smallcase letters, there is just 26 possible characters, so for a 4 digit password, that is just 456 976 combinations which may seem big, but takes a computer no time to guess. Use a password like above, gives 52 letters and 10 numbers, which makes a 4 digit password have a possible 14 776 336 combinations. If you can use symbols even better. Make the password 10 digits, and this gives a huge 839 299 365 868 340 224 combinations! Not a good chance of guessing. Make your password your pets name, and its as good as hacked!
Another point is auto login, and/or password storage. Many programs let you store your passwords so you don’t have to type in future, and some log you in automatically. These passwords may be mildly hashed or encrypted, but there might be programs to decrypt them, and if you use one password for everything, that’s not good.
Some people reckon another forum of security is to use lies on things such as secret question/password, this way friends wont be able to successfully fill in a forgotten password form. Others lie on date of birth etc… but this is illegal.

MemberLike ive said b4, you don’t want your password to be a single word u can look up in the dictionary, or a # less then 1 million. I never use CAPS LOCK in any of my passwords, cause it makes it that much harder to remember it if u forget it. The passwords im making now follow this form bloh—, make a word that is 4 characters, but mispelled, and then put three symbols after it, in yahoo this pw will not be cracked in a million years. Your password has to be 6 characters long, if you use symbols do not put symbols in it, yahoo will read it as HTML and u will lose your id, and also don’t put spaces in it, might mess up the account. Keep it simple, i’m an expert cracker and i garuntee if u make a 4 character word or 5,6 w/e and put symbols after it, it won’t be cracked. For aaa-zzz there is 17,576 combinations, for aaaa-zzzz there is 456,976 combos, and u add in the symbols your talking millions of possibilities. If you are really paranoid, use a 5 letter base word plus some symbols, 5 letter words alone gives you 11,881,376 possibilities.
And when u change your password, you have to put in your old password once, and the new one twice, i would HIGHLY recommend that u copy and paste the old password once, as well as the new password twice, or you could very likely make a typo and mess up your account. -
