Make sure that AIM is completely exited. Don’t just sign off, you need to exit AIM completely. Either click on the buddylist on AIM menu>exit AIM, or right-click on the icon on the bottom-right in the system tray on “exit AIM”. You’ll need to browse your way to the C: locations listed below.
(Not all steps for the buddylist are necessary to remove the ads and ad space; since earlier, older versions of AIM6 & Triton needed them, I’m listing all steps as a whole to cover EVERY version of AIM6 & Triton…new and old–do them all to ensure proper ad-removal. If you can’t make one of the changes because you can’t find it, that’s ok–it is meant for a different version of AIM.)For the buddy list ads:
C:Program FilesAIM6servicesimAppveryour_versioncontentblaolBuddyListAd.js
Open up this file in notepad, hit ctrl+f, and search for adcontainer. The first result is the one you want to change–change collapsed=false to collapsed=true.
Save and close the file.C:Program FilesAIM6servicesimAppveryour_versioncontentblbl.js
Open up this file in notepad, hit ctrl+f, and search for (“adContainer”).collapsed = false;. The first, and only, result is the one you want to change–change collapsed = false to collapsed = true.
Save and close the file. Fire up AIM to see if the ads are gone; if not, do the final step below. These are mostly for older versions of AIM6 & Triton:
C:Program FilesAIM6servicesimAppveryour_versionresourcesen-USstrings.xml
Open up this file in notepad, hit ctrl+f and search for bl.aimadrotateinterval. Make the four lines look like this:
0
0
0
Then search for bl.admagic and remove the numbers to make it look like this:
0
Save and close the file. That’s it for the buddy list!
For the buddy info window ads:
As of June 26, 2008 AIM AdHack 5.55 removes the profile ads in a very ugly way. I won’t be surprised if my method is incorporated in a future version of that program:
C:Program FilesAIM6servicesimAppveryour_versioncontentblbuddyProfile.js
Open up this file in notepad, hit ctrl+f, and search for onHTMLProfileComplete = function. Change (piSession, piSource, prop, hr, vData) to look like (piSession, piSource, prop,vData). Remove the , hr which is HTML for “horizontal rule”. It’s nice and clean, but removes the three tabs within the profile window.December 5, 2006 at 2:28 am #154810jesusfreakrkgMemberthen of course there is always AIm Adhack 🙂
December 5, 2006 at 6:28 am #154798Jon8RFCMemberWell, I want to offer an alternative since that program does a lot more than just remove ads and has some unusual behavior when used. Options are great though, so if people use and like that program then I say, “why stop a good thing?”
April 27, 2007 at 3:21 pm #154811WendeeMMemberWorks great! Thank you!
December 4, 2007 at 6:11 pm #154812forumsid987Memberthank you for this amazing tip!!! I hated using aim ad hack, it changed too much stuff and it was not from a trustworthy source.
THANK YOU x1000 for this!!! I love being able to do something myself and knowing I can trust it.
December 12, 2007 at 3:20 pm #154804ysatisMemberThank you!! It worked like a charm.
December 14, 2007 at 8:04 pm #154815DrewDMemberI just had to join this board to tell you guys how stupid you are!!!!!!!!!!!
Just download this to keep all the ads and trojans at bay, that was so hard wasn’t it?

December 14, 2007 at 8:09 pm #154794detn8rParticipantI believe it’s spelled “you”.
December 14, 2007 at 8:11 pm #154816December 15, 2007 at 6:43 pm #154793detn8rParticipantThe wonderful thing about this site and forum, is that it isn’t a one way street. Even though AdHack removes the ads with a press of a “install” button, some people don’t need the extra that comes with it.
As for you double D, if your attitude is a one way street, you’ll find your self in the dog house.

December 25, 2007 at 11:33 pm #154818JonathonReinhartMemberSo I put together a quick little program called AIMAdRemover that exactly replicates Jon’s directions on the first post of this thread:
jonathon.onthefive.com/aar
This is the first build, so there could be little bugs, but I’ve tested it out and it appears to work just fine.
If anyone wants to give it a try, go for it… and let me know how it works out, and if you have any problems…

December 26, 2007 at 1:36 am #154819zomzMemberHas anyone tried this? Is it legit?
December 26, 2007 at 4:22 am #154820zomzMemberI tried the method in the first post, but Vista wouldn’t let me save the files after I changed them. I then went on my notebook which has XP and changed the files, saved them, and replaced them on my desktop that is running Vista. Just FYI…
December 27, 2007 at 6:12 pm #154795detn8rParticipantJonathonReinhart, I think you forgot to include a link to your program 😉
