Thank you very much for this!
One question though, is there any way to remove the actual space where the ad used to be so that there is more room for the buddy list? Right now I just have a big AIM icon where the ad used to be.
Thanks again!
January 26, 2008 at 7:08 pm #154796Light-Hawk-WingMemberSweet thanks.
@Telamon, on mine the ad space is gone and the buddylist fills it up. If it doesnt on your make sure you saved your changes to the files. Also im using aim ver 6.5.7.20
January 28, 2008 at 11:25 pm #154822telamonMemberYea, for some reason my ad space did not fill up with just those changes. I did, however, find another post by Jon8RFC (can’t find it again though for some reason or I’d link it), which said to change something in the bl.js file. I tried that as well, and it didn’t work either, but I changed something a few lines down that looked like it affected it and it worked.
It was:
C:Program FilesAIM6servicesimAppyour_versioncontentblbl.js
Search for: scene.getBoxById(“adContainer”).collapsed
The first one that comes up is the one I used, then I set value collapsed=true (it was false). There are several more instances of scene.getBoxById(“adContainer”).collapsed after that, but they were all already set to true.
My aim is version 6.5.9.1
I hope this wasn’t too confusing and that it maybe helps someone. Thank you again Jon for the changes.

I tried the method in the first post, but Vista wouldn’t let me save the files after I changed them. I then went on my notebook which has XP and changed the files, saved them, and replaced them on my desktop that is running Vista. Just FYI…
SOLUTION IS: Run notepad as an administrator….it’ll let you save it NO PROBLEM that way 🙂

i gotta comment on this..
use it or dont.. makes no diff to me.. but not trustworthy?!?
weve been doing this since 2004 and have more awards from reputable software sites than i need to mention..yea, im the adhack author..
When the window pops up and the code isn’t digitally signed, and it’s an executable that i’m going to have lots of conversations on and will be constantly running in the background…..that’s automatically not trustworthy. You are editing the installer, the executable, and i have no idea what else. With this little fix posted here, i know exactly what is being changed…and it’s a program that AOL published first hand.
I don’t know about others on this forum, but I have yet to have a virus on my computer and it’s because i’m cautious about what i download and install…unsigned programs are scary enough, one with internet access that has conversations constantly being sent…even scarier.
But your work is appreciated by many all over the world, that i am sure of.

I second this. Great fix 🙂
June 1, 2008 at 5:37 am #154825matt8484MemberWorks great. I am on 6.5.12.1, and this code worked great. Thanks

June 16, 2008 at 8:54 pm #154807VvWolverinevVParticipantThis solution still works in AIM 6.8.8.4 🙂
Note that the line 0 is missing from strings.xml, but this does not seem to affect the solution.
June 21, 2008 at 3:18 pm #154826me10lee83MemberI used to use AIM adhack but recently had some virus/spyware issues on my computer (not b/c of that) so I’m being extra careful about not downloading any extra, unsigned stuff so this is great!
Anyone know what file/code you need to edit to remove the links at the bottom though? (AOL music, call center, games, etc)

I haven’t done any customizing with AIM in at least a couple of years, but in the next couple of weeks I’ll look into this and the other ad (mentioned in an earlier post) to see what I can come up with.
Thanks for all of the responses of gratitude 😀
