MemberHello everyone,
Hey, I have been using Yahoo Messenger for a long while, but I had trouble ever since I deleted Microsoft Works 2000 from my computer. I downloaded a program from Microsoft that was suppose to delete the remaining stuff after the first deletion. I went back to my Yahoo Messenger and I clicked on a user and wasn’t able to get a message box up. I even did the right click and left click on send message with no success. I tried to get someone to add me on her list and the dialog box had no text when I clicked on add user. I’m unable to get into one of the chat rooms as well. The separate web window just stalls after it loads up the program. When I click on a user name on the profile the yahoo messenger box flashes, but the other page doesn’t load up or message box appears. Everything else seems to work though! I can get offline messages and I can check my mail from there.
I looked through Yahoo help and I have the RICHED32.DLL installed on my computer.
I use all the major chat programs such as AIM, ICQ, MSN Messenger and Trillian and they all work fine. Pop up windows on other pages work fine. I turned off my Norton firewall and I still have problems with Yahoo. I have the latest version and patches on Microsoft Explorer. I check Windows Update every few days.
I assume it must be a very isolated problem. I have done the latest anti-virus check and no bugs reported. Maybe the removal tool did it? Does the Yahoo message box uses something from the Microsoft browser or Microsoft Works? I did reinstall the previous version of ’97 Word and Works.
I hope someone can help me with my problem. I have been using Trillian ever since then.
Thanks, Mark

ParticipantHave you tried simply uninstalling, then reinstalling your Yahoo! Messenger?

MemberYes, I have done that and still doesn’t work. I made sure I deleted the folder and all the contents too.

MemberTechnically you should have no problems with or without Microsoft Works installed on your computer. And since you have already uninstalled Messenger and re-installed it, I would be willing to bet there is a more serious underlying Operating System problem. You might want to run a System File Check, make sure none of your drivers are corrupt, possible run scandisk, and defragment your hard drive. But in either case it sounds like the problem has to do with the operating system and not yahoo messenger.

MemberI did a system file check and no problems found. I did a scandisk and defragged my computer. Nothing has changed. I tried to get a response from Yahoo help, but they gave me an automatic answer of deleting Yahoo and getting a fresh copy (which I did).

MemberWhat version of Yahoo Messenger are you using? If you are using the new 5.6 Messenger this might cause problems. I have heard of many people having connectivity problems with this version of messenger. I have not had any problems with this version of messenger though. The only thing that I can think of to aleviate your problem is to try downloading a previous version of messenger and installing that and see if it connects. Also try using a third party program that connects using the Yahoo Messenger protocol like, YahElite, or Yazaks, Trillian, Miranda…etc. See if any of those will connect. That should narrow your problem down at least.

MemberHey,
I tried the previous versions of Yahoo. They don’t work completely or act like the current version. I use Triallian free version now. I don’t want to pay 25 bucks for the same stuff for free on Yahoo. Any free third party version that allows video feeds like Yahoo?

Memberyou could try paltalk it lets you also log on to other chats like yahoo, msn, aol, icq while being on paltalk. Also September 24, 2003 Yahoo will have a new version out again. Can’t use cams while using yahoo while using it while logged onto platalk.

MemberYaZak allows the use of webcams and sound….though you have to d/l a small prog. when you d/l Yazak. But it all works pretty well and the instructions are right there for you. But this is a YaZak for chat….so if you don’t want to go into an actual room…this may not be what you want.
