MemberWHEN EVER I DOUBLE CLICK THE PHONE BUTTON THIS MESSAGE APPEARS “You cannot place a call because Messenger is not currently connected to the voice service. This is either because you are behind a restrictive firewall, or because we are working hard to fix a problem with the voice service.” So please help me to solve this problem. I can’t talk with my friends.:(

MemberIf firewall with no proxies connection setting in yahoo preferences is selected then you won’t be able to use voice. To turn it off go to yahoo messenger preferences/connection and select the no proxies option, hit apply and restart yahoo messenger.

MemberGosh, I’ve just received that same “… restrictive firewall….” error message!
I use VMs a lot, and until now had never seen such a message except right here in this thread from Thuwunna. So – what’s changed ? Well, I was sending receiving ok last night, but NOW I can access and hear my old VMs, but that message comes as soon as I try to CALL someone.
Apart from installing the new I.E.7 Beta I have done nothing “major” in that time. Indeed it COULD be caused by my I.E.7, but I’m not convinced.
In fact I think I’ve found VM send wasn’t working, then a few minutes later it WAS – so I successfully sent a VM, then immediately went to send another to someone else, and up popped that message again!Which leads me to wonder if /suspect it IS in fact simply that Yahoo’s server is down occasionally, and no problem at all at the user’s end.
So, Thuwunna…. I’d urge you to keep trying, every few hours or days.
BTW, an easy way to see if it’s “down” or not is simply rightclick a friend – if “Call Computer” is greyed out, then you are in the problem zone.February 3, 2006 at 5:49 am #137422conners
MemberHi all…… just a quick question, its prolly a simple solution, i’m haveing problems with my voice in Yahoo mess. the problem is well i can’t retrieve them, it’ll say i have a Voice message, and i try to listen to it and my Yahoo mess freezes, so i’ll just have to shut my yahoo down and restart my yahoo to bring it back? anyways hope there’s a simple fix, or soultion for this, my knowledge for comps isn’t the greatest lol

MemberHi (and Welcome to BBB) Conners.
I use VM quite a lot, and that happens to me on occasions. Also happens to some other pals at times – I sure don’t know any cause and/or fix – just try again later and see if you get lucky ?! 😉
BTW, it is quite possible to simply not be able to listen to a VM you’ve received today, but open it up again tomorrow and it may unravel for you. Poor YM, this VM is a brilliant tool… but still a few minor quirks, I think. However, I don’t feel that classes as a problem “with your voice” – it’s something specific to the VM system.
Hopefully I’d assume/hope your normal live “voice”, either in CALL or in VOICE CHAT is no problem. (Which is odd, as I know a few people the opposite .. they can handle VMs fine, but just can’t manage anything “live” !)February 3, 2006 at 6:22 am #137423conners
Memberthanks for the quick reply….. basically the deal with my VM on yahoo is the following, i can’t seem to retrieve a VM ever wether its from a offline message, or during any chats, they can hear me, but i can’t hear anything, i just tried to redownload flashmedia and will try to reinstall yahoo sometime soon again lol….mehh dunno lmao

MemberOk, Conners, sounds a bit worse than I’d guessed. 🙁
Well, doesn’t that mean in fact you can TALK ok on YM, but you never HEAR anything (be it VM, live, whatever) ?
If so, then it’s not anything specifically to do with VMs, but just your sound overall.I don’t think the flashmedia thing is relevant here, and I also personally don’t feel reinstalling often solves anything (though often suggested) – but anything you do like that sure won’t make anything worse!
Have you tried disabling your firewall (temporarily) to see if THAT is blocking incoming voice ?
(I’m sure your solution is SOMEWHERE in these forums anyway, but it might take some searching ).
Good luck – hang in there. 🙂February 3, 2006 at 3:30 pm #137424conners
MemberLol….thanks again Kiwi
looks like your thinking the same situation as me “dunno” lol and yes i tried to temporally diable my firewall to no avail?!?!?! so yeah who knows, my msn and icq work just fine, but my yahoo doesn’t like me i guess
