hmm, coolguy74@hotmail.com or yahoo_guy128 aren’t necessarily more easy to remember than 1939233.
My only objection is that user IDs should use an existing unique identifier, that is, the user’s email address. MSN Messenger can do this by signing up with a Passport. Unforunately most people use a secondary Hotmail address.
I usually find text identifiers decidedly easier to memorize, but I guess the ICQ numbers are just the same as memorizing a telephone number. Still though, Chris has a point – with all this new technology, there’s really no reason to still be using strings of numbers to identify ourselves. With that logic, let’s get rid of DNS and have people remember website IP addresses again. 😉
