MemberI need to replace my beloved cell phone with a new one right away and don’t have time to do in-depth research.
I’m looking for the information about cell phones that you can’t easily find by reading the manufacturer’s specs. I need to know which phones you guys use that have survived being droppped. I need to know if your cell phone got wet and still worked when it dried out? I’m a little hard on my phone and I know there are some out there that are a little more hardy than the rest. Please let me know if your phone proved to be especially fragile to being dropped or went blank when you accidently sneezed on it….or if it survived falling off the roof of your car when you took off. I only have a couple of days. Even a quick ‘yea’ or ‘nay’ regarding your brand/model will help me weed out the bad ones real fast. THANKS a bunch!

MemberWell, it all depends on the country and system you are using. There are a LOT of really cool phones europe, but in general they will not work on most US systems (though that is FAST changing….YAY!) Let us know what system you want and the features…then we can give you an idea or two. And Dreams, she obviously wants help, that’s why she posted she wants help. Do you have a phone you might like to reccomend?

KeymasterI’ve gone through about seven or eight different phones, including Nokia, Samsung, Motorola and HP iPAQ. If I had to suggest the most sturdy and durable, I’d say Nokia (and probably not a clam-shell design).

Memberone of the few “rugedized” consumer phones on the market: http://www.nokiausa.com/phones/5100/0,2803,feat:1,00.html You must REALLY like to talk on the phone a lot!!

Memberi currently have a motorola v265 and it’s okay. i had to get it replaced once already. it was a free replacement, though. i’ve dropped it, kicked it, threw it around and stuff. it’s been in my back pocket and i slipped on ice and landed on my butt, and it still worked. it isnt very water resistant though. ihad it in my back pocket another time and i had to use the ladies room at the bar…and it fell right in. it still worked, but i had to talk using the speakerphone all the time.
other than that, i love my phone!

MemberI’m firmly planted on US soil…and limited to a phone that will work on the Verizon network. I had a friend simply drop her phone from her desk (30 inches) and it broke. I need one that can survive falling from a ski lift and being buried on beach by my dog. Looks like a Nokia and the LG is leading the pack on phones being recommended to me so far. Thank you, Allycat, Oreo, Jeff, Rae, and the BoredOne for the help…I’ll be stuck with my decision for 2 years…and appreciate the fast responses. PS. nice battery life on that Nokia 5100 VBM..good recommendation.

I think I want to get it. *heh* I’m tired of the “flimsy/it’s so small and cute/looks like a cosmetic to match your purse” look. I’m a guy! I want something that says “I want to beat you up cuz I’m just so friggin rugged”
Wow just looked at the different covers for it…talk about a rip off…$34.95 for a different color cover?! I’d stick to default.
As for rugged phones, I have dropped mine several times, and it still works great. I suggest Nokia phones as well.

Participantso far the best i’ve heard of is the Motorola RAZR… i know it’s a bit pricey (for me at least… i go for the cheapo phones and protect them) but everyone i know that has one will vouch for it being ultra-sturdy.

MemberThanks for the input GoldenKnight, I have heard several good things about Motorola being rugged. But, after reviewing a lot of friendly advice I decided on the LG V-9800, its too new to have much of a reputation for being durable but I’ll give it a shot.

ParticipantI have also seen Motorola be very durible, my cousin dropped his in the snow, while it was flipped open, and yeah. I don’t remember the model, but it was a Motorola flip, so Motorola will be a good bet. The phone you are looking at also looks as if it will be fairly durable, so I think that’s a safe-bet also. However, I wouldn’t want to drop that :p
