MemberI’d love to hear about your experiences with Vonage, good and bad. Before I take the plunge, would be nice to hear of others’ experiences.

KeymasterI don’t use Vonage, but I use a competitor (AT&T Callvantage). It’s a little more expensive, but when I compared features and reliability, it seemed worth it.
One nice thing that Vonage does is convert voice mail messages to MP3s and send them to your email.
I know Chris Pirillo of Lockergnome uses Vonage, and he’s said that when it works, it’s great, but sometimes you get outages. Vonage recently had an IPO and their stock dropped significantly from the opening value. Stockholders are looking into a class-action lawsuit against them. For those reasons, you might want to consider a more established firm, or live with the possibility that you might need to find a new provider down the road.
On the bright side, switching providers is not a big deal.

Packet8 costs $20 month. For that amount, and unlimited USA minutes, i can spend my time worrying about other things than getting voip for free. 🙂

MemberI’m confused as to why people buy Vonage. Where I live, a landline, even after ridiculous taxes, is approx $17/month unlimited local calling w/Verizon. And I’m assuming the $20/25 Vonage doesn’t include taxes. Plus we barely use our landline; it’s always tempting to just cancel the dumb thing…are landlines more expensive where you live? Why do you want VoiP in the first place?

Memberheinz where are you at? I think a typical phone bill in Maryland is $50+ and then add long distance to that.
