MemberLook for the “invasion to privacy” button in an upcoming build.
This was meant to be a joke. Stop IM’ing me asking if I know to how to use this feature.

MemberI’ve noticed that sometimes you can tell who is on in invisible mode by simply going to mail and then look in your address book. It does not always work…but it does work sometimes. I noticed by chance one time. But…I think…if someone is invisible s/he wants to be that way for a reason….so leave her/him alone… just send a message….say hello…& if s/he wants to talk or respond…you’ll get a message back. I don’t know…maybe I just respect people’s right to privacy.

MemberI don’t quite get the point of having invisible mode. What is the point of going on messenger if you dont want anyone to know that your on..?

Membersometimes…K.T. people want to be online & talk to one or two people….so there is invisible…if you don’t want 10 million IM’s from other people you may not want to talk to @ that time. Also, some people use it to use another nick, & that way people who have them on their lists don’t automatically figure out or suspect it could be the same person. 😉 Hope that answers your question.

MemberYahoo isn’t complete! Check ICQ: you can select persons in a special mode, so they can see you, even when you’re in invisible mode…

Interesting. Why is it incomplete Peter? Each IM Client has its own set of features, if one does not have the same features as another, that doesn’t necessarily make it incomplete. Also what would the point of “invisible” mode be if others could still see you as online under it? It kinda defeats the purpose.

MemberSo that YOU can choose to which persons you really want to be invisible!!!

MemberIn Yahoo: if you want to be invisible to “the world of internet”; you have to choose the invisible mode; but than even your friends won’t be able to see you… In ICQ you can select persons and turn only that persons in visible mode….. Isn’t that handy???

MemberDont you mean something like the “Block” feature of MSN/AIM and “Ignore” feature of Yahoo?
July 22, 2003 at 12:21 pm #97001Peter
MemberNO!
I mean this in ICQ (2003a):
You can set ICQ “overall” to invisible (same like Yahoo). But then you can go to a contactperson; leftklik on it; “Alert/Accept Modes”: “User preferences for: “contactperson”
go to: “General”
go to: “Status”
go to: “Online Status”
and choose for “Visible to User”
So only that contactperson can see you now!July 22, 2003 at 2:50 pm #97000Lurking_Biohazard

If I want to talk to someone when they log in, I let them know I’m there. Sometimes I just don’t want to talk to everybody. If I want to then I just change my status! Works for me. 😉

MemberThis is my MAIN/only grievance with yahoo. I would love to be selectively invisible/offline to some people and not others.
WHY? because i have 3girlfriends and i dont want them to see me online at the same time as i cant type that fast…(and also i feel its impolite to mates if u r too “busy” to talk to them, and yet u r online- i prefer just blocking them. what they dont know cant hurt them)
msn lets me do this really really nicely. but i would love it if yahoo can add this option too. icq does it too, but i cant stand icq (having to click SEND with the mouse and not the “enter” key)oh! and talking to any of my girlfriends or mates while am “invisible” is an obvious NO because they will wonder why am hiding… and they will also wonder if i;ve been using the invisible option often lol..
To answer the original question : another major giveaway with yahoomessenger.. has anyone here ever noticed their mate trying to log in under invisible status? there is a 10th of a second when u get VISIBLE before the invisible option kicks in! that is such a giveaway! you can only notice it if you log in before the person who is gonna get invisible. . basically, the person will seem to login-and log out so fast.. less than a second.. ..
try it yrself. set yr yahoomess to “log in automatically as invisible.. and you will notice that despite this, yr status will be “available” for a microsecond..
