MemberJohnson, I would love to hear your tips on securing yahoo accounts…so would everyone else on the board. Please post for all of us…. And right now, honestly, I am a little leery of chatting with you on Yahoo…simply because of the things you say you can do… or that can be done…I am still deciding if you are friend or foe…

MemberOreo, i dunno about you, but if you spend a lot of time online and don’t really get to socialize much and meet “real” people it is easy to fall for someone online, i have had it happen to me, a lot of times it is easier to open up to someone over a computer screen then in person, 😉
And as far as saying things i can do, i never really have, cracking ids nowadays is a huge pain in the butt, back in the day, you could target a specific username and run infinite passwords on it, i would run a descent size id list on a list of 4000 passwords, this was when the servers were “unpatched” meaning they wouldn’t ban you once you ran a single username, but in 2002 yahoo started this word verification crap, and it is one of the few things they have done that ever made sense, basically it patches the servers, so you only get from 1-10 password attempts per username, b4 you have to type the word in the box, and no program can replicate it, so that is all you get is 1-10 passwords to try, per 12 hours per id, so what came about in may of 2002 became known as backwords cracking, running one password on a huge list of usernames, 10’s of 1000’s on a single password. Nothing against it, it worked, but you really lost the ability to target a specific account. From the last unpatched server i had in april 2002, i only had one more the whole summer, and it lasted a day or two, got some good names with it, yahoo was doing good, untill september or so, and some new unpatched servers came up, so i got back into it after a slight retirement, and there was unpatched servers from september to november, then they patched em again, and after that i don’t mess with password cracking anymore.
The thing is we didn’t care about regular names like the ones you guys use, all the names i targeted, with a few exceptions, are called rares/illegals, these are names that u can no longer make that were created 4,5, or 6 years ago b4 yahoo banned them, ids that have symbols in them, !@#$%^&*()-=+.? begin or end with an under space, have consecutive under spaces, start with a #, or have foreign ascii characters in them, capitol letters, original ids (words u can look up in the dictionary) basically if you tell someone that they can’t do a certain thing, they are gonna want to do it that much more, if u outlaw it, pretty childish if you really think about it, but it was a lot of fun doing it, and i made a lot of cash selling them 😉 a buddy of mine has a website and he sells cracking programs, http://www.c-r-a-c-k-i-t.com he still makes good money , u can pay like $20 to be a member on his site, and trust me, Yahoo! knows all about his site lol, they deactivate every id he uses on messenger
Another method used to crack names, is called info cracking, i really love info cracking cause it’s a lot more challenging then password cracking, i would say password cracking doesn’t take any skills, but that is untrue, info cracking is really difficult, cause once u target an id, you have to crack the birthday to it, then figure out the zip code on it somehow, and if u can get both of those, then you get a chance to crack the secret question, back in the day, there was a birthday cracker that ran unpatched, a handful of people had it, including myself, and it worked nicely, until i gave it to a friend of mine, and him in his ever quest for yahoo status, gave it to the entire free world, and needless to say, it doesn’t work anymore, and yahoo patched the servers pretty much like the password servers. I also gave him an exploit that only a handful of people had, this exploit let you view anyones location from their account info, thru a simple url from yahoo auctions, and you would just take the town, and use http://www.usps.com/zip4/citytown_zip.htm to find the zip code on it, well after yahoo got ahold of it they patched the exploit, but over time there was others, but they got patched as well, i haven’t had one for 7 or 8 months now, i really miss being able to info crack names, it was a lot of fun, don’t get me wrong theres new crackers, and exploits, but nothing like i used to have, all the password crackers who knew me, also knew that i could info crack names, and they had to respect that, it took everyone a while to figure out how to secure their ids from being infoed. If u guys have ever reset your password, you would know that they used to reset them to something like applebarrow352 etc. , well back in 2001, the list that these passwords were generated from, was only like 50,000 possible passwords, and the top guys from yahoo! games acquired this list somehow, and would reset the passwords on ids, after cracking the info on them, and then they would run the yahoo 50k pw list to steal names, from what i hear a lot of really nice ids were cracked using this method, in 2002, yahoo got wind of this, and they beefed up the list to like 1.5 million passwords, well i got this list of 1.5 million passwords from a friend of mine, haven’t the slightest clue were he got it, lol, and i gave it to another friend of mine and he cracked some of the best ids in yahoo with them, well not sure when they did it exactly, but in mid 2002 yahoo changed from a 1.5 million password list, to a list of i’m guessing around a billion, making it virtually impossible to crack anymore ids with it.
Ok that’s a brief history of Yahoo! cracking, lol, ok some things to secure your ids: do not make a one word password, like your name or any single word, do not use a reversed word as your password, buddy of mine had a reverser on one of the last crackers i used, like nosnhoJ , don’t put the same pw on different names, even for forums, websites, internet access ids, ANYTHING, this is what crackers hope for, or anyone looking to steal your password, DO NOT, use credit cards online. As far as creating a password, i make ALL of mine different, at one time i had over 1500 yahoo names, and trust me 95% of them had different passwords, i have a college rule notebook full of them, and yes i reccommend writing them down, if you are at work, then don’t write down the full password, or write it down and add stuff to it, like say your password was BigBlue, write down TheBigBlue323, as far as creating a pw, i would suggest splitting them into 3 parts, a base word, then a #, then some symbols, e.g. Johnson473++- all my passwords take that form, BUT mathmatically they aren’t crackable, i never use capitol letters, and if you put these symbols in it yahoo will read it as HTML and you will lose your name, think they would ban them, lolTo change your password use this link:
https://edit.yahoo.com/config/change_pwOne thing not many people know about, dunno if it still happens, but if u put in 2 different new passwords, it will make it the first new password, unless they changed it, and if its the one that u messed up on, then you won’t be able to log back into your id, and you will have to reset your pw, so what i suggest if you change your pw, is that you copy and paste, not only the old pw, but also the two new ones.
Ok as far as securing your info, i personaly do not secure mine, haha, info crackers are VERY rare, and not too likely, but if you are paranoid, used to we’d make all of our zip codes 9 digits, like 90210-1234 in that form, and there was NO way to crack or steal or in any way shape or form get their zip code, but i know a few months back, a buddy of mine told me that the last 4 digits didn’t matter, and that all u needed was the first 5, i cracked a few names from this bug, ty yahoo!, lol, one method i use to info names, is i just strike up a convo with the person, and i basically get them to give me all of their info, i love preying on people whos zip codes are in their ids, and also people whos birthdays are part of their id, over time you learn how to spot these things, hehe, but it’s mainly for amusement purposes only, i give them their names back, and tell that i could careless about stealing their names, i just wanted to teach them a lesson. The odds of a cracker targeting your id, is very very rare, and the odds of them cracking your name, are prolly even rarer, unless your pw is something like 123456, then u deserve to lose it, when you choose a secret question, i would suggest the one “Pet’s Name” i have ran into prolly 20+ like this, and i never cracked any of them, when i spend time on an id, and see pet’s name, i get really pissed, i try the ten most common, then don’t mess with it, you can make it anything you want, just make the answer easy to remember but tough to crack, same as i said for making your password, and you should remember that the answers ARE NOT case sensitive, i have tested my own ids, so i know what im talking about. If i have confused you at all or you have more ?’s lemme know,

ParticipantJohnson, all that stuff you said about the birthday info is very informative but that only works provided people actually use their correct information/zip code, and who DOES that?! Honestly, who here actually put in their correct informationa and zip code in their account information when signing? I know *I* didn’t! YOu can use any date that’s easy to remember, you can go through whitepages.com for any country and use a fake zipcode thats also easy to remember, and no one will be any wiser. Its not like yahoo requires proof of ID to sign up. And you can create a hotmail account (again fake info) etc….
So how do you know the information you get off people’s list is the correct information? Answer is , you can’t.

MemberGood point, BUT, like i said, if i know anything about you, i.e. your age, or actual location, i can report you to yahoo for violating terms of service and get your id deactivated. Theres more then one way to skin a cat. I think i am very knowledgable on the subject and in my opinion half of all the passwords that people make are crackable, not sure on what % of people use bogus info, but i think that a high percent of females would use their personal info, and as far as guys go, you’d be surprised how many use their actual info. Not as likely nowadays but back in the day, you could crack a birthday irregardless of what they made it, from 1850-2000, and also when u create your id, the city that you put down, well yahoo takes the zip for that city and throws it into your account info, and guess what, if you don’t delete that city from your account info, every once in a while theres an exploit that let’s people like me view the city you have in your account info, and i just look up the zip for it through the post office’s website. The main thing here is to make sure you put a BOGUS city in your account info, and make a 9 digit zip, but im not even sure if yahoo will read a 9 digit zip as 9 digits or 5, haven’t checked it recently, it was actually funny cause the top guys in yahoo who knew about the exploit would put funny locations so other crackers woud see them, like i put on a few of my ids for my location, “uncrackable 9 digit zip” lol, But the odds of anyone info cracking your id, are less then 1 percent, very unlikely, i don’t secure my info, odds are if someone gets to your secret question, even if it is crackable, they probably won’t get it unless they really know you, you only get like 10 tries at it every 12 hours. A lot of people make the answers to their secret questions like rkjttij3t3iojto3ij4toijertji;qlrktj or something, which i think is dumb, but it’s not crackable, but also if you lost your id you prolly wouldn’t be able to get it back. Another technique i have mastered to info someones id, is for guys i will make a female id, put a hot pic on the profile, and get to know them, and basically get them to give me all their info, then crack the name, and u can also make a fake login page, and get them to sign into it, and it emails me their id and password, i have owned people with this method within seconds
Something else i just thought of, it is important to make your password uncrackable, not only to keep it from getting cracked, and knowing that it can’t be cracked, but say it wasn’t crackable, and someone took your id, then you would know that they got it some other way, if you ever lose your id it is important to figure out how u lost it, not only to prevent it from happening again, but also making sure someone didn’t enter your pc via trojans. This happens a lotJune 3, 2003 at 7:56 pm #95850Netti
MemberI don’t know what the big deal is. Seems to me Johnson, that it takes you a heck of a lot longer to hack into my account, delete it, or mess with it, etc., then the 25 seconds it takes me to create a new one.
June 3, 2003 at 8:11 pm #95865Johnson
Memberexactly my point, they are just ids who cares, and if u have any common sense at all you should be able to recover a stolen account, but the thing is people do take it seriously, my buddy made a program that lets u make like 1000 ids in a minute. I have taken some peoples ids that had really big mouths, and i always give them a chance to make up for the mistakes they have made, and if they do so, then i give them back their name, but if they just cry about it, i won’t give them back. If you ever lose your name and the person confronts you be nice, and odds are they will give it back, unless u really pissed them off, then your screwed, lol

MemberAren’t you nice! I think you are a sick demented person for what you do. Get a life!

MemberLOL Johnson, remind me to never get into a chat discussion with you, because I have a ‘VERY BIG MOUTH” and love being a smartass, but the only one that would be upset, would be you. I would be laughing my ass of. But, again, that’s just me…. Everyone reacts differently.

MemberYou people will learn that i tend to dominate any kinda conversation, specially about yahoo. I’ve forgotten more about yahoo then most of you will ever know, and i am the biggest smart (_)_) online, hands down.
Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with a stick. :p

MemberOk i trace and find the names of every one i talk to on yahoo ,if i can becasue ive had people stalk me in real life…i have packet sniffing soft ware i can use if i get an im i can find ur ip and then find u ps yahoo records everything u type people and ur ip is attached so even given a fake name means nothing they can find u, I dont hunt people down or contact them with out there permision either. Program called neo trace works well after u have an ip……….just remember ur ip is attached to everything u do here..and once again telling people to use ytunnel is a big mistake its given hackers an open door…………

Wow, I just read this thread.
I’ll probably get warned for this post….
Your full of ****, its so obvious that you are. Your ‘buddy’ didn’t make a program that can make 1,000 ID’s in a minute, the Yahoo! servers can’t prosess that fast, nor can they connect to the internet at that connection speed.
Your a complete moron for giving people your address, nobody ever told you that is how identity theft happens? (Not Yaoo ID, but Social security etc.).
Get a life, grow up and stop acting like you know everything, so lets talk programming, ASP, PHP, CGI, PERL, HTML, XML, CSS, C, C#, C++, I bet you know very Little about that.
As I said before, grow up.

MemberFirst off when did i ever say i knew the first thing about programming? NEVER , you want me to get someone in here to talk about programming i can do that, i could give two craps about programming, if you want to talk about cracking yahoo accounts let’s chat buddy. As far as my friend making a program that can make a 1000 ids in a minute, i can see how you would logically think it’s not possible from the word verification, but this kid is one of the top programmers in yahoo and finds ways around it.
i_have_a_life_this_is_a_prog1 -999 is one set of ids a buddy of mine made, he says he has like 10 sets of 1000, they make them for boosting rating in pool. you can check everyone of them if u wish, they are all there. Anything else you want me to clarify me being a “complete moron” and all.
