Memberhey, I’m new here, and I was wondering if there was anyway to find out the ip of a person I am talking to? And when I got their address, how could I use it to find their telephone number or anything?
Note: Please don’t misinterpret this as me asking how to hack someone’s computer. I have like 75463456385 friends on my list, and only have numbers for a few of them.
So, I was wondering if I could trace their Ip, and then how could I find their phone number or anything? if that is possible. Address would help also, because I could just go to white pages from there 😀
Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

ParticipantYou say you don’t wanna hack them but you wanna find out personal information about them. -.-
If they are your friends why not just ask them. If they don’t share with you that information that is a right they have.

MemberBecause I hardly see any of them and with over 4000 kids at my high school, it’s kinda hard to get in touch with them. I mean, all I wanted was like their phone number and city/state. If I was asking you how to do this, do you think I would know how to corrupt files on their computer or even gain access to it?

ParticipantThis cannot be done, it’s that simple, you cannot get this information with only an IP Address.

MemberAbout the phone number and address.. if you know their last name and the city they live in .. Go to http://www.msn.com and then, on the side bar, under “Look It Up”, choose White Pages.. but that’s all the help I have for you there. There is a way to get the IP from Direct IM, but I dunno how anymore. Hehe.. sorry..

I witnessed my friend (who moved and I am out of contact with) do it with an older build of AIM, but he still got the person’s address and number and crap. Can’t remember how he did it though.

ParticipantWell AIM does have something called “Find a Buddy” Go to >>budy list >>people>>’find a buddy’ or ‘find a buddy wizard’. If you know their email address you can find their address and name. These only work if the person actually entered information into their directory though. I know this is in version 5.2, don’t know about 5.5.

IP Address = Address on a network, not in “real life.” 🙂

But seriously, like after my friend used geektools to find the isp, he somehow got their address….. I know that required hackage.
Ok, new question. Is there anyway to do a trace or whois through cmd prompt? Or do I have to go to geektools or dslreports to do it?

Membertry doing it on a linux prompt that will work for you… I am pretty sure windows has a traceroute command I think its tracert but I could be wrong as for the whois if your looking for hostnames or whatever you can use netstat -na and netstat -a respectively to match an ip to a hostname look for a program called sam spade I think that can do it for you too

KeymasterYour friend more than likely got the information off of AOL. AOL profiles sometimes include such information.

MemberI’ve heard of a way to do this…get the IP that is…I’m not going to explain for obvious reason…but it can be done…on the older versions it worked anyway

NETSTAT has been documented here already, getting an IP on AIM is useless though.

MemberI think if you want to know personal information about someone on your list you should ask that person and not try to find it by yourself. I consider that an invasion of privacy and very rude.If a person does’nt want to disclose his or her phone # or otrher info to you then it’s none of your business to be lurking for than without heir permision.

ParticipantWhat info can I get from an IP address. My ISP’s address. Thats it. See for yourself, here is my ip info – 209.89.216.144. Trust me, my name isn’t Telus Communications Inc. And I don’t even live in BC.
