MemberSorry for the long delay in posting this. I had it written and ready ages ago, but I’ve been going out with friends to keep myself sane as I’ve been sending every other hour that I’m not out trying to fix my PC. Tip: DON’T REPAIR WINDOWS – it messes it up more than it was before.
It rendered all my Microsoft Office applications unuseable and prohibited me from utilising any protocol apart from HTTP.
Well, here’s my IRC release post, it’s not that great but I think it suffices. Since this is the staff forum I thought I could lay back and write a brief but accurate informational post about IRC without having to be as professional and mature as I usually seem to be.
So, if the post doesn’t satisfy you, I’ll be writing a completely new one for the public.
Now, I’ll leave you to the reading. You’ve got a lot to do and more to come when I finally get around to writing the Modules documentation.
Have fun. :woot:
Well, took me longer than I thought it would as I decided to test each module one by one, but the test server is finally up. I feel that this move from Hybrid IRCd to UnrealIRCd was a smart choice, as IRC is now more user-friendly and feature filled than before. With this move between the different IRC daemons, I feel it opens up BigBlueBall IRC to the members, as this will allow us to encourage member-involvement on IRC (creating their own channels, coming into #BigBlueBall to chat etc.).I’m hoping to make #BigBlueBall a support channel as well as a chat channel. I know it already is kind of like that, but the fact is, there aren’t enough knowledgeable people on IRC to answer the different questions we’re asked. I for one have little to no knowledge on AIM and so we need helpers to be on IRC to be able to provide support to the users. I understand that it’s harder than just a MSN Messenger support channel, but I’m willing to try.
Along with improving the support we can offer over IRC, if we show the users how to use IRC then maybe they won’t be so afraid of IRC or ignorant about IRC. I’ll be writing mIRC scripts to help make it easier for new users to come on IRC and get straight to chatting (for example, scripts that auto-identify you to NickServ etc.) and hope that you guys can help me out with that. As well as help with writing scripts for other IRC clients.
We’ll also need to write out a number of tutorials and help documents to assist users with IRC as I’m hoping for a user-friendly environment and easy-to-use services. Also, as not all staff members are familiar with IRC, we’ll need to hold training sessions or so. I’d appreciate it if any IRC-familiar staff members could help with that. We need IRC-able staff for the (technical) chats that we’re planning to have on BigBlueBall IRC to control the crowd etc.
You can find documentation on the IRC daemon we’re running at http://www.vulnscan.org/UnrealIrcd/unreal32docs.html and documentation on the IRC services we’re running at http://anope.zero.org/docgen/en_us/. I stress that you guys read it all.
Along with those manuals, I’ve added a couple modules to the IRC daemon and services and you can find information on them in the following threads:
*Need to write them by going through each module to ensure I haven’t missed anything*
Once again, please read them all, as there are new features added to the IRC daemon and services thanks to the modules.
I’ve decided to write the different modifications in separate threads in the staff forum in case specific feedback is needed.
Once I’ve cleared it with Jeff, I’ll be releasing the private server details to STAFF ONLY, then I’m hoping to get the Premium Members involved to test out the IRC Server once the Staff have had their fun.

MemberTest server details:
irc.bigblueball.com:9898For those of you who are not sure how to connect to IRC, I’d suggest downloading and using mIRC. Once you’ve installed mIRC and have it running, type the following in the command box:
/server irc.bigblueball.com:9898
Still, I suggest you read up on mIRC documentation. There are loads out there.
Please connect and play around with the server. Familiarise yourself with the features, commands and play with the new services :).
For those of you who aren’t familiar with IRC, now’s the time to start. UnrealIRCd is REAL user friendly. Come join the rest of the staff on IRC!
Feel free to post suggestions and criticism here.

MemberRead the documentation linked in the first post.
I’ve still got to write the module-specific documentation 😛

KeymasterWarren, I need to know at a minimum how to permanently ban someone. We have a few people who are not BigBlueBall fans that are polluting the channel. I’ve used Trillian’s Kick-Ban but it (obviously) isn’t permanent. I’ve looked through the docs you referenced above, but there is so much there, it’s overwhelming.
Can you simply explain the command that will permit me to permanently ban someone?

MemberHey Jeff,
Talk to me on MSN Messenger or IRC when you’re on, it’s easier and safer to explain on those mediums than it is on the forums. You need to oper up and then you have a choice of different commands. I’ll explain when you’re free.
