ParticipantHi,
Does anyone have AIM 7.1 running on a 64 bit Windows 7 machine? Someone I know is having a problem running it.
Thanks for any info!
Steve

ParticipantWith software like AIM, I don’t think x64 is going to cause any problems, and yes it works on Windows 7. What kind of problems is s/he having?

ParticipantIf it’s just a matter of launching the program…on both Vista and Windows 7 some programs need admin privileges to run. Assuming the user is either the admin on the machine, or has admin rights, you might have them try right clicking the icon and choosing “Run as Administrator” and seeing if that helps.

ParticipantHi Dave/Doris,
Thanks for your responses. AIM starts, runs and the buddy list loads but when she tries to send a message it freezes and then stops responding completely. So it’s not an admin problem that I can see. Any other thoughts? She was able to install Trillian and that works perfectly, it just seems to be AIM?
Thanks for any help in advance,
Steve

MemberI’m having the same exact problem Steve’s friend is, so I tried AIM 5.9 and it has the exact same problem, although a little better. Does anyone know a solution to this?

MemberI finally solved my problem by downgrading to AIM 5.5.

MemberHORRIBLE problems trying to run aim under win7 64bit. Freezes on every send. Really annoying. Trillian works fine but I prefer aim. Even the Windows compatibility troubleshooter had no luck. I’ll try 5.5 but wow AOL is really behind the game here.

ParticipantI thought AIM 7.3.6.4 is fully compatible with Windows 7 x64 edition. Isn’t that the latest version?
Don’t know why some of you guys want to use ancient versions of AIM under Win7.
Steve1209, try upgrading to AIM 7.3 on your Win7 computer and see how it fares out.

MemberI’ve tried all of the recent versions of AIM from 5-7.3 and they all are freezing up on me. It works fine for a while, but if I stay logged on for more than 5 minutes, or if I try to open up “settings,” for example, it’ll lock up and a “AIM has stopped responding” window will pop up. I’ve tried disabling all of the various firewalls and anti-viruses I have installed, but still no luck. However, If I switch over to the Vista partition that I have, everything works fine. Does anyone have a solution to this?
