MemberHi friends. One of my friends was asking me help relating to a hacking issue. Her computer has been hacked atleast 3 times and not to mention she has to format her computer all the three times. The thing is the hacker was talking to her and was kinda threatening her that he can send the trojan forcibly into her system without even asking for her permission. She is kinda worried about this. I have asked her to get a firewall and NOT to recieve any files or click any unknown links. I noticed that Norton Antivirus 2004 doesn’t detect Magic PS 1.43 and same with McAfee. So I wanna know is it realy possible to send any file or trojan forcibly through Yahoo! Messenger file transfer or by any other method? Is there any way to prevent it?

MemberIt doesn’t really matter what the message windows looked like. You can’t force a file onto another person’s computer over yahoo. This person has probably gotten the files through her email, or by browsing on the internet. Either that, or she is accepting files from people she doesn’t know/trust. In fact, she shouldn’t be accepting any files at all from anyone, whether she trusts them or not. She also shouldn’t be clicking on any lings of any kind at any time while on yahoo (those links being from yahoo, and I wouldn’t suggest clicking too many links that come in through email either). By the way, how has your friend been “hacked,” she probably hasn’t been hacked at all. If she is just getting booted, then it’s not a hack. Please inform us of how she was hacked. Oh, and there was a post on here earlier that is about that magic PS deal. You might want to look at that.
Some things you might want to get, are Spybot S&D, Adaware, and try running an online virus scan called Housecall.
Like I said earlier, ask your friend how she was “hacked” and let us know, and then we’ll know what exactly is going on. Hope this info helps you out.

I don’t think I mentioned any where that she was “hacked”. I just said, her computer was being hacked 3 times. And yes, her computer was hacked by that Magic PS 14.3v software.

MemberThose were the “hacks” I was actually talking about. That deffinately sounds like she clicked on a link that she wasn’t supposed to have clicked on. I think the only thing that can be said about that, is to look at the topic regarding the Magic PS trojan. I think you’ll get the most info if you look there.

Memberokay, if you want info on that Magic PS deal, go here https://bigblueball.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7457&whichpage=1 and check that out. That’s a topic dedicated to providing information for and answereing questions regarding the Magic PS trojan horse keylogger. You should have read through that topic first and posted your questions there regarding the Magic PS keylogger. I think that topic pretty much answeres all of your questions, except for the question “is it realy possible to send any file or trojan forcibly through Yahoo! Messenger file transfer or by any other method?” which could have been asked and answered there. But, to put a final answere on that, no. Technically, you have to allow/initiate the download of the file. It doesn’t work like the SASSER virus which loads itself into your computer when you get on the internet, you actually have to download it from somewhere, either from a website initiated by a script, you trying to download a file that is infected, or you accepting a file transfer. Hope this answeres your questions about this topic.

Ok here is the answer to my question. I know about Magic PS 14.3 and my question was mainly whether some one can send you a file forcibly and now we have got the answer to my question. Thanks.

MemberOh, okay, I miss understood the question, you mostly posted on the Magic PS thing, so I assumed that’s what you wanted to know, but, no, you can’t force a file onto someone’s computer through yahoo.

Beta Exploit – 12th May 2004 14:23:04
We were shown yesterday how Yahoo! Messenger Beta may be exploited, and permit a remote user to install a file. Be careful, and make sure you are running an updated anti virus.

MemberOkay, mdande, I don’t trust helpbytes all too much on that, because I just don’t trust them much anyways. One main reason though on why I don’t trust them about that exploit, is because they don’t give much information on it… in fact, they don’t give any at all. Two, is because that’s the only place on the entire internet that says that Yahoo Messenger Beta has an exploit of such. However, if it did, it’s most likely in one of a few places. It either is involved with the javascript and emoticons, audibles, or the display image, possibly even the launchcast radio deal. So, take the proper precautions and turn off audibles, ImVironments, and that launchcast thingie. If you really need an internet radio, go to live365.com.
P.S. I’ll keep an eye out for anymore info on that “exploit.” If it’s true, it’ll start popping up all over the place, and it’ll probably be in Steve Gibson’s newsletters. I’ll post something here as soon as I find anymore info on that.
