MemberApple has rolled out iTunes for Windows along with the iTunes Music Store.
iTunes looks and is exactly the same program as the Mac version. Will anyone switch to this new player? Buy from this store?
Or will you stick with WMP/Music Match/WinAmp or other.October 17, 2003 at 3:04 pm #54314rustedtight

KeymasterIf I had an iPod, I’d probably try it. Apple is doing some neat things with iTunes and the iPod. I think the future of downloadable music will look very much like iTunes.

MemberThe file is so big though compared to other players. I’m using Windows 98, and it says its only for 2000 and XP, can I still use it?

MemberI downloaded both iTunes and MusicMatch for my PC and they were both about the same. iTunes although a bigger download (only by 2MB) was quicker to install. And the iTunes store is so much better.

MemberI have a Mac, iTunes is the best music program I’ve ever used, you can still use KaZaA, etc. with it and it really is awesome. Nobody knows until they try it.

Memberi think itunes is a very good program, its so easy to find songs, and u cant get in trouble for havin them cuz u payed for them. it makes it really easy to burn Cds also. even if u dont hav an ipod, it is still a very good idea to at least try it. dont make judgements bout it till u try it!!!

I dont see why you would only get it if you had an iPod. Its just like MusicMatch except it uses the AAC music format (wich is converted to standard audio when burned with Itunes)
I would also like to say Itunes is great. The layout and library are very nice. Downloads are fast, and its 0.99$ a song and 10.00$ an album, could it get any better?

Downloads are encoded in AAC which is an open secure format. Anyone can setup their system based on this. I am actually surprised all other stores are using the proprietary Windows Media Format and not supporting the iPod which is the biggest selling player on the market.

MemberYou could also go to Napster.com which is now an online music store just like apple’s. It’s owned by Roxio and two record labels (Sony and one more if I’m not mistaken). It’s about $1 per song and I believe there are less limitations to what you can do with the songs than some other online music stores have. They offer entire albums for download for $9.95 if I recall the articles on Cnet correctly.
Oh yeah, napster isn’t officially opened yet, but it should be open by the end of the month. If you sign up now, you get 5 free downloads or something.
The only reason I won’t use those kinds of services is that the ones I’ve checked are for US and Canada only, or at least right now.

There is nothing surprising in stores NOT using/supporting iPod, it is an ecconomical desision based on demand. Your local store owner is believe it or not, not an idiot his/her decisions are based on income, that is, your demands decide what he/she stocks, nothing else.October 19, 2003 at 8:45 pm #54321richtestani
MemberUm.
I was referring to the online music stores supporting the iPod, nothing to do with who stocks what. While I don’t have figures for you, I think it’s quite clear which mp3 player is the most popular. The iPod simply is the most sold player on the market and as I stated, I am surprised that none of the other stores have supported the iPod.

Memberrichtestani, i dont think that they are supporting it becuase there is no reason. If you have a iPod you will probably use apple’s store becuase they created the iPod and will work the best with it.

KeymasterI have to admit, I lust after an iPod. It’s simply the best MP3 device out there. Simple and elegant in design, yet HUGE storage capacity. It would make a great Christmas gift… hint-hint! 😉

And you don’t think it has anything to do with the lack of other large capacity MP3/digital audio players until recently? Creative has the Zen (several different capacities), of which I have never seen a single ad anywhere, and recently Philips has released a large 15GB player (called the HDD100). Other than that most digital audio players don’t go over 256MB capacity and are no match for the iPod which real audiophiles want.

The iPod may be the smallest in size, but I definitely don’t think it’s the best-looking. Personally I think the Philips HDD100 looks a lot sleaker with the shiny black front
