ParticipantWell sence we are on the subject of ipods, i’m going to have to disagree with you frutzle. Just recently i saw the ipod commerical which showed that the ipod came in different colors and also showed it supported both Mac and PC (yes i know it already supported PC but Apple has finally marketed it for PC) and i think a green or blue ipod would be really neat. As for the MP3 players go, i own an minidisc and i think thats just as good as any MP3 player out there but for half of the price of many. Sony made it and they did a damn good job and sence the discs are soo small and rewritable i dont care about bringing them with me after all they hold more than any CD-R disc.

MemberI bought a Creative Nomad Zen NX 30 GB and I love it. The interface isn’t as good as the iPod but I have 30 GB for what I would have with an iPod at the same price. I needed something to store plenty of mp3s plus backup important files. Unfortunately, I have to use their proprietary software to manage my player’s library so it doesn’t really matter what software I use to listen to music on my PC.

MemberI think the following article might be nice to read: http://news.google.com/url?ntc=04SB0&q=http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/7/33468.html
As for richtestani’s comment “Actually, Apple does not use their own format. Downloads are encoded in AAC which is an open secure format.”, according to that article, Apple does have its own DRM (which they keep to themselves) and pretty much requires you to have an iPod to use iTunes’ songs on a portable audio player.
By the way, iTunes isn’t all that according to this article: “Apple iTunes for Windows crashes PCs
Microsoft often gets complaints about the bugs in their software. Now it seems that Apple’s start on the Win32 platform isn’t much better. The “Best Windows software ever” is crashing PCs on system boot up.”October 20, 2003 at 3:28 pm #54320richtestani

When MS talks about others being closed I have to laugh.
While this is an issue, there is a workaround available.

MemberOK chill out guys… BBB is not an Apple versus Microsoft war site. Please return to the thread topic or risk the thread being locked because of abuse.
We are all computer users, some chose Microsoft as an OS others *nix and its variants while others chose the Apple version of *nix.
Express your views by all means just dont ram them down the throats of opposing posters. Open versus closed source may be discussed but lets not argue about it, as neither product is ‘open’.PEACE

MemberI’m not saying either is better than the other, I just pointed to some articles that I read about iTunes… if that’s not allowed then say so and I’ll keep my mouth shut.

Your cool, your articles are not being accepted in good faith, maybe its time to let the thread fall silent.

MemberThe only problem i found with Itunes is one that i found with all of the stores currently out. Bands like linkin park, metallica, and Red hot chillie peppers are refusing to put their indvidual songs (and albums as of now) online because they are afraid of how it will damage the music industry.

MemberUnforunately, I can’t run ITunes because I have Windows Me. I tried installing it even though it requires Windows 2000 or XP, didn’t work. The installation program tells you that you’re running an incompatible OS before it begins installing. But if I did have XP or 2000, I’d probably install it.
