Jabber, Inc., announced availability of the 2.7 release of Jabber XCP (eXtensible Communications Platform), Jabber Messenger, and Jabber WebClient.Initial customers for the 2.7 release include Earthlink, France Telecom, Lehman Brothers and Orange. The new release includes tools for knowledge management, regulation-compliant message archiving, and enhanced presence functionality.
This release is targeted at financial institutions and corporate entities where auditing, authentication and privacy are critical features.
“As a knowledge management tool, one of our financial services customers has been using 2.7s text conferencing features to set up persistent, multi-user topical forums (chat rooms),” said Karyn German, Jabber, Inc.s VP of product development. “Enterprise users then specify to receive immediate notification when selected keywords or phrases have been posted in one of these forums.”
Other significant features include:
- Send Transcript: Allows users to easily e-mail transcripts of one-on-one IM sessions to a third party
- User Name Display: Lets administrators set up Jabber Messenger and WebClient to display specified LDAP fields, such as first and last name, rather than JabberID
- Modular Installer: Provides a more flexible installer and better supports multi-server deployments
- Administrative Broadcasts: Allows administrators to send broadcast messages to all connected users
- Client-Server Locking: Administrators can lock the server to enforce the use of a specific client or clients, ensuring that all users have a specific client and/or version
- Centralized Logging: Gives administrators more flexible and modular control over logging error messages to different locations
Jabber, Inc.’s 2.7 release, including XCP, Jabber Messenger, and Jabber WebClient is available now on the Linux and Solaris platforms. The company will release a 2.7 server for Windows, jointly developed with HP, in early October of this year.
