Kanex
Group, Inc.
announced QuickPopup, an instant messaging tool for local area networks.
Targeted at corporate, shool and home networks, QuickPopup allows users to
exchange popup messages without connecting to the Internet. Formerly known as
MacPopup, this new version is available for both Windows and Mac PCs.
QuickPopup users can be receive audio alerts of incoming messages or have
them automatically pop-up on the screen based on their priority. You can send
messages to individuals or groups, and you can use templates to save time when
sending standard messages.
One weird note: Although this is clearly an instant messaging program by most
peopleŒs definition, Kanex has gone to great lengths to avoid calling it that.
They prefer to call it a popup messenger. Not sure why, unless theyŒre
just trying to distinguish themselves from the crowd.
Pro: Interoperable between Mac and Windows versions.
Easy-to-implement. No server required. No Internet connection required,
improving security and reducing abuse risk. Nominal licensing costs (starting at
$15/user with discounts for volume licenses).
Con: Not interoperable with other instant messengers.
QuickPopup looks like a good solution for companies and organizations
concerned about controlling cost, securing messaging on an internal network or
who do not provide Internet access to employees.
QuickPopup is not a free product, but you can
download a free,
30-day trial. For more information, visit
http://www.quickpopup.com.
