ParticipantThats nice.
Im sure everyone would like to have them, but we all cant afford them.
Its good to know of whats out there, but if you are that concerned about new viruses check out your AV’s web site.June 11, 2003 at 5:48 pm #95146DJHyperbyte
MemberQuote:quote:Originally posted by lukezwebWhy do we even need to know about this virus when i personally have firewalls and Mcafee Virus Scanner!!!
Drop the egocentric point of view. YOU might have that software, but others might not. And if the virus is very new and coded properly it’ll just walk by your virus scanner anyways.
But, that’s all not the point at all. The point is, that it’s just posted in the wrong place. 🙂

ParticipantBugBear.B Worm eats msnmsgr.exe
Win32.BugBear.B@mm is the latest threat in the Internet environment and it’s spreading fast. It has an appetite for MSN Messenger among other popular programs, so we suggest you do a little ‘further reading’ at BitDefender.com or at least use their Removal Tool to make sure you’re not bugbeared!
(as seen on http://www.mess.be)Now you can see why it relates to the MSN Messenger Forum.

Memberin case any one may NOT have an anti virus……
http://www.grisoft.com for FREE antivirus.. avg is highly rated…. works VERY well……
and…. as i tell EVERYONE…. never assume just because you have something on your comp. dont assume its currently updated or the antivirus vender has the dat files loaded ….. ( dat files. virus definitions )i STRONGLY recommend using one or more online scanners as well occasionally to double check……
free online scans try http://housecall.antivirus.com/ or http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php or http://www.commandondemand.com http://www.ravantivirus.com
disable whatever antivirus you have on comp first if you do have one…..
because the worst part of bugbear is that it is a polymorphic worm, which makes it difficult for antivirus programs to detect and it is difficult to recognize, as it does not display any warnings or messages that indicate that it has infected a computer.June 12, 2003 at 11:58 am #95150MarkyD

Now you can see why it relates to the MSN Messenger Forum.Yes, and we all know having a lil’ chat with our mateys is of much larger importance than perhaps maybe stoping that virus that’s destroying our computers.

Ok? I’m not too sure what the heck that means? I don’t see how you managed to think I was implying this from my previous post. Perhaps you did not notice that my post does inform you of how to stop/detect the virus so that you can continue to chat with your so-called “mateys”.
MarkyD, your social commentary is completely lost on me. You seem to have something important to say, so perhaps you could post a clearer argument.

I just don’t really understand what this has to do with MSN Messenger. Ok the virus screws with it somewhat, but the virus doesn’t go after it in partuclar; but instead a number of programs/files. And I would have thought that if someone were to be infected with a virus on their computer, they’d have more important things to do rather than use MSN Messenger.
I’m aware you provided a link of how to remove the virus; I was just a little…shall we say…”mystified” by the comment which I quoted in my post.

ParticipantThanks for clarifying. The reason it relates to MSN Messenger is that many people may not know that their systems are infected with this virus, and they post on the forum that they can’t get their MSN Messenger to work…..and in some cases running the Removal Tool has helped solve some problems – as mentioned by superdigg in this thread. So while the virus does affect many other programs as well, this forum happens to be dedicated to MSN Messenger, and this virus is known to corrupt MSN Messenger, so thats why i think it is worthwhile that we mention it.

Memberlol I returned to this post to find lots of enthusiasm I see.
I posted it due to an article I read on http://www.mess.be
I hope no one has lost sleep over the post due to it being placed in the wrong section.
