ParticipantIf you find an answer to this, I would be extremely amazed.
Esp. for example when a user/ chatter gets innto an arguement with you, and then complains about you. one sided arguements are Yahoo’s downfall. Same as Non Booters ! Didnt really do anything wrong, yet blah blah blah.

MemberI have answered and answered this problem over and over again, i suggested that they put a FAQ on the yahoo forum and they did, but they never put much effort into what all should of been placed into the faq. I have spent a LOT of time typing out how to recover a lost username, i would consider myself an expert in this area, if anyone had any common sense they would of made it into a tutorial and posted it. That’s one reason i don’t post on this site much anymore cause people don’t really listen to what i say. Just because i have an abrasive personality doesn’t mean that i won’t try to help people out. anaveen, if you want to find out what to do you can goto my profile on this site and take a lot of time to go through every last thread i have posted on, on this site, and you will find the one where i went into great detail about how to recover your username. I have done this already like 5 times, and i’m not gonna do it again, it’s ridiculous. If you find the thread, and read it and then you still don’t understand something, then and only then would i be willing to help you out. I hate inefficiency, it really bothers me.

ParticipantWow. Glad to see the few hours I spent putting together that FAQ is so appreciated. Johnson, In your self-indulged brilliance, did you perhaps miss this particular section:
Quote:quote:If you have any other FAQ’s you would like to see added to this list, feel free to email me at shifter@bigblueball.com with any suggestions. The way I figure it, with the 5 minutes it took you to rant, you could have instead done the following:
1. Just answered her question.
2. Linked her to a post where you had previously answered the question.
3. Told her where the Search button was.
4. Linked her to our Yahoo FAQ (which is right here btw)
5. Solved world hunger.Well maybe not the last one. This whole entire post took me approximately 3 1/2 minutes to write. And I got to rant and help. 🙂
Seriously, if you have a suggestion to help out our forums, I am more than open to listening. Send me an Email (shifter@bigblueball.com) or post in the Suggestions Box. We know you know your stuff Johnson, and we do appreciate any help you offer others less informed. Keep posting, just make sure it helps.

MemberFirst off, in no way shape or form am i affiliated with this site, in the past i have made suggestions, and if they seemed like brilliant ideas then the mods would take them and use them. But if they had to scratch their heads an think about them, they just forgot about them. I suggested that a faq’s be put here, and it eliminated some of the redundant ?’s that people asked over and over and over and over again, but it didn’t eliminate them. When i first suggested that there should be a faq’s on here, i said that we should get together and figure out what should be on it, and in no way shape or form did anyone ever come to me and ask me. I thought that me and freddy could make a few suggestions, he seems to know everything about yahoo. That would of been by far the most simplistic efficient way to set up a faq’s, or at least that’s how i see it. This site has a nice basis, but it’s not as efficient as it could be, i dunno maybe you want a lil inefficiency so more people post and more people join the site? I can lead people to water but i can’t make them drink.
And i did spend like 10 minutes going through the archives to find the thread where i posted pretty much a tutorial on how to recover a lost account, i went into vast detail and i made it simplistic enough for a 10 year old to use it. An i did go through the faqs to see if there was anything about password retrieval or lost accounts and i didnt see that or the suggestion box, even if i had i still would of posted it. It’s not my job to sit here and build your yahoo forum for you, and it’s definetly not gonna build itself. Maybe this will kick you in the butt and get you to do it.October 3, 2003 at 12:25 am #89850shifter

We didn’t send personal invitations out, so I’m sorry you missed the get together. If you don’t like the way our forums work, and can’t be bothered to make suggestions, then you know where to go. You say the forum is inefficient, tell us what would help. As I said, we are open to suggestions.

MemberAs I recall, there was an area in which to suggest what we wanted on the FAQ’s. And Johnson, you DO have good ideas and the Mods HAVE thanked you for them more than once. YES, YOU AND FREDDY (AND CARBONIZE I’d add as well) are certainly assets to the site. I don’t think anyone thinks you’re associated with the site though…you can be a bit too vitriolic at times. Moderators have to do what they think is best for the people who visit this site as a whole…and when you get a group of people together, who have similar knowledge and interests….they are going to have similar ideas. I don’t think we’ve any thieves at large here….I don’t know, I think it’s better that we all get along and not point acusing fingers at anyone. It would make for more understanding and respect.

MemberI don’t need credit for the things i do, i get enough credit for things i didn’t do. I don’t want people to suck up to me, i get enough of that. When i first posted on this site it was out of boredom, and i got into it with some people, then i actually started helping people out and it made me feel all warm and tender inside, but certain peoples never noticed. And along the way i made some brilliant suggestions of things to add to the forum, and some was used, and other were totally ignored. The whole point was for someone to dig up the old archive, i’m not gonna do it, i’ve already done it five freaking times. Totally redundant, as far as this forum being inefficient, if you can’t see it for yourself, im not gonna sit here an break it down for you, it’s definetly not rocket science, it’s a forum for christ sakes. As i’m sure you have noticed, i’m not a very patient person, if people chose not to listen to me, that is their loss. I have been back on the yahoo scene lately, and i could post some new tricks out there, but i’m not going to.

MemberI knows you’re out of the site “forever” or whatever aveen, but the thing is….there really isn’t an answer. All of the problem, at this moment, lies in the fact that YOU cannot remember the password or question….which, to be honest, sounds more than a bit suspect to me (perhaps I’m the only one). AND as Johnson did point out, even if it was not in the most patient way, was that there IS a FAQ here. More people DO need to start using it. I’m even getting really annoyed with the questions that are asked OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. It’s because people can’t take five seconds and see what’s available for them. Often people think that their problem is unique or special and don’t even realize that there IS a FAQ section. Perhaps, instead of pointing the finger of blame at any one person (for there really is NO ONE to blame) I’ll give a suggestion; this is more in the form of a question since I don’t know everything. Is there any way to make the FAQ section stand out more so that people start there? And link it to search as well? Then, perhaps we’d spend more time helping people rather than bickering about petty things. In the scheme of life, this is little stuff and it’s not worth getting your undies in a bundle over it.

MemberHaving been a moderator at the Snitz Support Forums for a while, and an active member there for over two years, I know for a fact that having FAQs (either on seperate pages or as sticky topics) doesn’t help much. Most people just post their questions because they feel their problems are urgent (or as Oreo put it, they think their problem is unique or special), and they won’t take time to do a search or look for FAQs. If one search doesn’t give the correct answer, or too many topics, they’ll ignore it all and post anyway.
It’s annoying, yes. But if you know people ask the same questions over and over again, and you don’t want to look up the right posts, edit your signature so it contains links to some of those topics, and just reply saying “click this and that link in my signature to get the answer”.
You could also make an MS Word or RTF (or perhaps PDF) file containing FAQs and/or information you know people ask for often. Then just upload it somewhere and link to the file for people to download. Or you could make it into a web page and just link to that. You won’t be the first to do something like that, and that way, without having to do a lot of work each time a question is asked, you’ll still be helping 🙂

MemberEverybody has misplaced or forgotten a password. As far as your secret ? not working with the answer that should, my guess is that when u made your question u put a bogus answer like sdfsdfsdfiw4tisdfg an you can’t guess it. This is a very common problem. If you put your email address on your account when u created it, or some time after u made it, then there should be an option to email a new password to your alternate email. If not, quite possibly your account could be lost for good.

ParticipantOk, I thought I had posted enough info in my first post to answer this question. I was mistaken.
Anaveen – I am sorry your question got lost in the mess here. As Johnson has suggested, simply go to https://edit.yahoo.com/config/eval_forgot_pw? to request a new password. If you don’t know the info for this page, then your account is gone for good. Sign up for a new one.
As to your other question, we already have a Yahoo FAQ here, as indicated in my first post, and I am going to add this question to the list. If you have any other suggestions for the FAQ, please email me, or post it here.
I do hope you will look over this poor introduction to our forum, and stay as a member of this forum. Remember, if you have any questions, they likely have already been asked, so a Search is always a great place to start. Thanks for joining 🙂
