http://developer.aim.com/botMain.jsp
This is big news- they are giving anyone the ability (and a boost with an SDK and sample code) to make an unwarnable, un rate-limited AIMBOT!
seems the only restriction is that the bot can’t initiate conversations (ie. someone has to IM the bot first). This is obviously to avoid spimming, but for bot developers life just got much easier.
I’ll note that there is still a rate limit of 10K messages per day. This might sound like a lot, but its 7 messages/minute (or t=8.5s) sustained. So really, they’re just allowing you to deal with peaks better.
As for warnings, if your normal ScreenName never initiated conversation, it was pretty hard to get it warned quickly, so there’s not so much saving there.
One of the big things they HAVE given bots is the new 10K buddylist limit. This is between 2-5x the old limit (it was never officially announced). While some of the very top ScreenNames will still be left invisible, for bot owners this is an incredibly useful limit to be removed.
