warning9
MemberIt’s really hard for me to explain this because every time I try, people don’t understand so I’m going to try one more time on this new website. I love this site by the way.
Ok here is my problem. On Yahoo! Messenger when someone sends me a message, the message box pops up, but the area where people’s text is suppose to be is completly blank, so I have no idea what they are saying. I can type a message back but when I hit enter, the text area remains blank. Then I see the whole “so-and-so is typing a message” and then it goes away and my text box is still blank. I’ve reinstalled Yahoo! Messenger about 5 times and even downloaded the new beta. Nothing. I have to use Miranda IM now to connect to Yahoo! Messenger. I’ve had this problem for about six months now. Any help would be greatly appriciated! :crying:
Thanks!

MemberSorry to hear your having problems. I do understand what you are saying that you type in the type area but when you send the message to be viewed in the message window it remain blank. you see at the bottom of the message box when the party your talking to is replying and when they stop and when they send the message box still remains blank. how am I doing? Ok
question 1. the party your talking to are they getting the same results as you are? I am guessing not. If this is the case it sounds as if the problem is narrowed down with your download of messenger.
question 2. did you follow these instructions just like they are here?
Make sure to exit Messenger completely. If you don’t, the uninstall will fail.
Click the Start button.
Select Settings and then Control Panel.
Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
Select Yahoo! Messenger and click the Remove button.
Click the Next button and then the Finished button.
The next step is to install:
Close all running programs except for your Internet browser. Please download the installation file to your desktop.
Download the file to your Desktop and then double-click the ymsgrins.exe file to begin the installation. This should solve the issue.
If you did let me ask you did a security update box pop-up asking you to update? if so you should have updated. If the box never popped up then go to the bottom of the yahoo messenger download page and find where it says security update and making sure your messenger is completely off (not even running in your taskbar. run the update.)
One thing most mess up with is making sure noting is running except your browser when loading downloading or upgrading. a good rule is to only run programs that has to run while adding something new to your system.
If this does not work I will take time to look into your problem further. Please let me know how it turns out for you.. and welcome to the Big Blue Ball

MemberWelcome to BBB, Patrick. 🙂
I don’t know an answer, but you might get some info from THIS interesting thread on another IM forum site.
The posts are rather old, AND relate mainly to losing text in chat mode, I think, but perhaps the principles are the same.Perhaps also carefully read the “Text Patch” section here (relating to RichEd dll files). That may or may not apply to your case.

Question 1: No, their messenger is working fine.
Question 2: I’ve done those steps exactly as they are written.
Yes about the update…Thank you for trying. It is such a crazy problem

Memberhi
it seems disapearing text is an ongoing problem with yahoo, whether in an IM or a chatroom. I believe a solution that has worked in resloving it has been to re-install your 5.6 script files from microsoft, http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c717d943-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&DisplayLang=en ,that’s the download page for XP.

MemberThat should fix it. This problem has popped up several times before. You can do a topic search and see other solutions people have taken to solve this same problem.

I installed them, and My Yahoo is still not working correctly. My Message Archives don’t work either. I’ll search the archives and see what I can find…

MemberSorry to hear your problem is ongoing. I found a thread on here with a similar type problem of seeing but not being able to send messages, where they completely uninstalled their current version and went back to a previous version and upgraded from there once they found a working version. Not sure if that will help, but heres the link to it, and it has links there to find old versions of messenger to download https://bigblueball.com/forums/yahoo-messenger-support/33224-unable-receive-messages-yahoo-messenger.html?highlight=Messages
I must agree with you on the difficulty finding resolved issues here as it seems many do not post back with results to their issues once fixed or otherwise 🙁

MemberYeah I’ve tried to uninstall and downgrade too… nothing. I’ve pretty much tried everything except reformat my harddrive… which… I don’t really want to do…

MemberIf it has any significance, My windows updates window is doing the same thing. When I get a popup that says “hey you need to download crap” I’m like “okay” so i click it and both boxes are completly blank. So I’ve had to set it to download them automatically… which is kind of scary because some windows updates just make windows worse. But yeah, My Yahoo, My Windows Updates… what is the relation lol.

MemberI was just curious if anyone has managed to solve this problem yet? When I installed Microsoft Script Files it fixed windows update and made the updates and descriptons come up okay, but yahoo messenger is still dead.
