MemberAs best I can tell, the problem occurs when I log off as one user and log in with a different user ID. After I do this a few times, and then close Messenger, from that point on, the program stops responding and I’m not able to relaunch it. I have to reboot the pc to get Messenger to start-up. When the PC is rebooting, I receive an error message saying that Ypager.exe is not responding. Any ideas or suggestions? Thank you.

MemberHard to imagine that I’m the only person on the entire internet who’s experiencing this problem. But.. since no one has responded in over a month.. it seems that might be the case! Amazing.

Well i personally have never experienced that… So my suggestion would be one that solves most problems… Have you tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling?November 11, 2005 at 6:24 pm #131323bumblebea
MemberOh yes.. reinstalled 4 times. And this problem is occuring on both my home and work pcs. Someone on a different forum suggested it was a memory problem. And the solution was to revert to using the previous version of Messenger. I have.. and the problem is gone. However.. eventually.. Yahoo will force me to keep current with upgrades.. right? So what then? And.. I’m not sure if Yahoo hosts any forums where I can ask them directly.

Memberyou can disable the auto update funtion on yahoo messenger, but be warned-once you do this you will no longer be notified of any updates from yahoo. So do this at your own risk!!
either:
Go into the folder c:program filesyahoo!messenger and rename the file ‘yupdater.exe’ to something else, such as ‘_updater.exe’. Yahoo! will then fail to find the file and no more prompts!
Or:
Disable yupdater.exe any access on your firewall. Depending on the firewall, you can either select “NO” when prompted the first time, or go into its control panel and disable all access!

MemberThanks for the response.. but.. are you sure it was meant for my post? How is this a solution to Messenger ver. 7 crashing on my pc? And.. when it comes to updating, it’s always been manual on my part. Never happens automatically.

MemberIf its manual then yahoo cant force you to update-only you can decide if you want to upgrade to a newer build, but on most pc’s that have auto update(IE upgrade to a newer build or install security updates)then it can be disabled, thats why I posted what I posted. You can still run the older version(I personally run 5.6.0.1344 because it seems to be very stable build)
As for the ypager error on boot up,have you checked in task manager (ctrl+alt+delete) to make sure the program has closed down properly after each session?if not then end task.
And when this ypager not repsonding error happens is there an error code?
thanks

MemberI very much appreciate your efforts but you’re offering solutions to problems that I don’t have. I guess as long as I stick with the older version of Messenger I’ll be fine. I’m just speculating that one day, I’ll have to upgrade.. eventually old versions become obsolete. Ah.. maybe that’s where you misunderstood me! I get it now! What I meant by “forced” to upgrade.. wasn’t actually forced.. just a matter of .. well.. for example.. we’re no longer running Netscape Navigator 2.0.. it just becomes no longer viable. Guess that was a bad choice of language on my part.

MemberYes I misunderstood you, sorry. If you do upgrade again, and the error message occurs, there should be an error code,if you dont see one on microsoft crash report, then you can go into your event logger, control panel/administrator/event viewer/system,look in there around the time that the ypager stopped/stops responding.
As you said in your earlier post,it could be a memory issue. How much RAM have you got?Did you install any new software around the time the problem started. Are there any programs running in task manager that shouldnt be running,(ie-spyware).Basically you should look for anything that might be draining resources.I doubt very much it has anything to do with your Yahoo sessions(ie-logging out and changing names)
For the moment as you said you can run an earlier version with no problems, the newer version has more features,so obviously it requires more memory.
Basically without error codes or messages or any info from your system log, theres not much anyone can do.Ypager not responding could be due to anything,it could be a bad installation either.

MemberThanks again. Seems I’m the only person who is having this problem and ironically enough, I’ve had it on two pc’s. I doubt it’s a bad install because I’ve installed and deleted the program 5 times on two different systems. I have no idea how much memory is on the systems. And have no idea where to look for that info. Gosh I miss having an IT dept! Probably the minimum amount that comes with a low end Dell and eMachine. Then again, I’m able to run Photoshop which is pretty memory intensive and it doesn’t crash. I really do think the problem happens when I switch between User ID’s. If I stay with one ID it ran smoothly. There’s no error message, it just stops responding. Could it be related to Cookies? Is that a remote possibility? The other day the drop down menus stopped working in Yahoo mail, I deleted the cookies and the problem stopped. If I could only delete cookies from my diet! lol Thanks again for your help.
