ParticipantWhoops…didn’t read your subject line closely enough I guess.
Hmm. Never noticed it starting in Hotmail before as I usually already have MSN running. But it looks like Hotmail uses Javascript to start up MSN messenger and loads it at every page. If you don’t sign-in right away, then it closes and re-loads it again every time you switch pages. Very annoying as it causes a slight delay (depending on connection speed) while it loads Messenger before opening new webpage. But the good news is, this is extremely easy to fix.
How to Disable MSN Messenger from loading while browsing Hotmail
1. Close and completely exit all instances of MSN Messenger
2. Rename the folder ‘MSN Messenger’ located in ‘C:/Program Files/’ (Re-name example: ‘MSN Messenger-OFF!’)
3. Create a new shortcut to the file msnmsgr.exe
4. Go to http://www.hotmail.com and read your messages without hassle.NOTE: All previous shortcuts to load MSN Messenger will not work, as it is now located in a new folder.
{EDIT – another bump is the fact that games won’t work if you change your folder name. Sorry there isn’t any other way that I know of.}August 28, 2003 at 2:02 pm #56524imported_EvilSeph

*Do not continue if you are uncomfortable with editing the registry, and remember always back up your registry before editing!!!
Go to Start
Then run
Then type regedit.
Navigate to the following key
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID{F3A614DC-ABE0-11d2-A441-00C04F795683}LocalServer32]
@=””C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe””
search [ctrl+f] for F3A614DC in the registry and it will automatically take you there.Right Click this key LocalServer32.
Then Delete.

MemberCurious one offers advice if unsure it will work and disclaimers throughout.Loadqm force loaded my older messenger quite sure, but have diasble in light of fact i seen how much info micrsoft was sucking from this pc when my firewall is running and i`m online. As far as the registry i have no grief in altering,if i know will resolve.Previous post i assume is hiding messenger from the javascript. What took me 5-10 to check mail now takes me 20 mins waitng for messenger to load and unload per message.Really like the flurry of junkmail i get daily now to…..i will delete registry key if sure
