MemberBoo. Hiss. Messenger Plus! sucks ass. I just spent the last couple hours removing the spyware it installed on the two computers that happened to have Messenger Plus! installed. And from the way IE is behaving, it’s not quite all gone. Of course I’m aware that you can decline any adware/spyware in the installer, at least for appearance purposes. I’ve done this with other programs without incident. But it’s simply BS with Messenger Plus! 3.
I declined it when I installed (duh), yet I have spyware/adware (it’s all the same sh** to me). I did let Messenger Plus update to a new minor version after install.
Also, this spyware is particularly heinous. That gawdamn search bar it puts in IE and the gigantic series of bookmarks it persists was very annoying, as I use a bookmark synchronization service across a number of computers. The uninstall instructions so graciously posted by “Patchou” on his/her forum simply did not work at all the way they were supposed to (my Messenger Plus! installer didn’t seem to think I had the sponsor installed). It took a couple reboots and no less than sweeps by 3 spyware removal programs to get this far. Of course, I didn’t figure out that it was Messenger Plus! that was re-running this crap after I cleaned it off until midway through the process, thanks to numerous posts by other people who were also side-swiped by “Patchou’s” shoddy software.
Anyway, just a warning to others. Goodbye and good riddance Messenger Plus! Guess I’ll give Trillian a try.

I’m just going back to miranda. At least free of spies, easy addons, nice plugs developed etc. Just take care and don’t get pwned !!

MemberYou guys, don’t use Messenger Plus. Messenger:Mate for MSN has all of the features of messenger plus, and more. Check out Messenger:Mate for MSN Messenger at http://www.versoworks.com/mm – I use it and I can definitely tell you that it is a lot better than Messenger Plus.

MemberYou’re entitled to having your opinion. But it really annoys me when you go around stuffing your opinion into people’s faces as if there is no other opinion that can possibly be right.
From what I’ve seen of Messenger Plus! – it’s the most stable product out there. Even IN beta. From what I’ve seen of Messenger:Mate – since I’ve last seen it, it’s really unstable and who would pay for features that Messenger Plus! does for free?
If you HAVE to recommend Messenger:Mate then I HAVE to recommend MSN Shell. Even though I am an avid supporter and user of Patchou and Messenger Plus!.
Let’s go through the Messenger:Mate for MSN Messenger feature list.
Quote:Tab Manager
add/remove/reposition the tabs that appear in the Messenger Contact List. You can browse online for existing tabs, add any of Messenger’s default tabs or create and then add your own custom tabs.MSN Shell can do this and a lot of other “cool” things. And the most important point is, it doesn’t cost any user a cent. Unlike Messenger:Mate, where you have to buy the product.
Quote:Clone Messenger
start a new instance of Messenger so you can log in with a different email address.MSN Shell can do this, as can patches and loaders out there for FREE. But the most important point I can make is, did you know this is illegal? You are not allowed to modify Microsoft’s software, as per stated in their EULA – which you HAVE to agree to in order to install MSN Messenger.
Quote:Lock Messenger
prevent others from using a running instance of Messenger by locking it with a password. While Messenger is locked you will still be able to receive new Messages and alerts which will be displayed only when Messenger is unlocked.Messenger Plus! does this. It was the first to do this and it does it for FREE. What more can I possibly say?
Quote:Log Manager
view and manage all text and HTML logs through a single interface. All logs are displayed with the time the conversation started on the date they occurred and you can view logs by session, day or user and also delete logs by each of those categories.Once again, Messenger Plus! does this for FREE. And was the FIRST addon for MSN Messenger to do this.
Quote:When signing in, set my status to…
an option to set the initial status whenever Messenger signs in.MSN Proxy does this for FREE and so do a plethora of other addons available for MSN Messenger. Also, MSN Messenger 7 has this included as a feature.
Quote:Snap contact list window to screen edges
an option to enable the contact list window to automatically snap to the edge of your screen when it’s moved or resized within proximity of the screen edge.Messenger Plus! does this and was the first to do so. Oh guess what? It does this for FREE too!
Quote:Hide advertisement window in contact list
an option to hide the advertisement pane at the bottom of the contact list and also stretch the contents of the list to cover the area the pane occupied.Contraversally illegal. Besides that, there are many patches, loaders and add-ons that offer this functionality – for FREE!
Quote:Dock the contact list on the left/right side of the screen
an option to allow the contact list to be docked to one of the screen edges just like the Windows Taskbar. Docking will ensure the contact list is always on screen and that no other application window covers it up. You can select which side (left or right) of the screen to dock the contact list on.Auto hide the docked contact list
an option to allow the contact list to auto hide just like the Windows Taskbar can. You can also adjust the speed at which it is shown/hidden.I’m getting bored of saying this. MSN Shell does this for FREE.
Quote:Log chats in text
an option to enable all conversations to be logged in plain text.Once again, Messenger Plus! had this first – for FREE.
Quote:Add time stamp to logs
an option to insert a time stamp at the start of each message in logged chats. And this.
Quote:Add time stamp in conversations
an option to insert a time stamp at the start of each message in an Instant Message window.Messenger Plus! has this when using StuffPlug-NG(2) with it. Oh, the wonderful uses of plugins. It’s FREE too.
Quote:Group IM windows
an option to have all Instant Message windows grouped together under one common window, clearing up Taskbar clutter when numerous Instant Message windows are open.A number of add-ons can do this for FREE. Including Messenger Plus!’s plugins.
Quote:Away Messages
add personalised messages to send to your contacts when you’re away. Each message can additionaly set your friendly display name for that personal touch.Messenger Plus! had this first, does it for FREE and does it better.
Quote:Instant Message Shortcuts
use IRC style shortcuts such as /status or /name to quickly change your status or friendly display name directly from an Instant Message window.Yet another first for Messenger Plus!. It does it for FREE too.
As you can see, why spend money on a product that does things that free applications do too – if not better?Thank you for your time.

MemberWait, does Messenger Plus! have a tab manager? Or themes (skinning)? That’s right; it doesn’t!
Oh but Messenger Plus! does have adware / malware / spyware. That certainly puts it in the number one spot of Messenger add-ons.
Not to mention, after you run all the addons/patches you mention as an alternative to Messenger:Mate, MSN Messenger would be as stable as a drunken sailor on a saturday night and use about 50mb of memory, but that’s all good, because they are FREE. Wow, let’s all be cheap!
April 3, 2005 at 6:14 pm #82059imported_EvilSeph
MemberMSN Shell has a tab manager – FREE.
Themes are really ugly and cause MSN Messenger to become unstable (I’ve tested it. The beta of it, the full product and the final version).
The mere fact you are accusing Messenger Plus! of having spyware in the first place, leads me to believe you cannot read.
For one thing, Messenger Plus! does NOT include spyware or malware. Please look those definitions up. Messenger Plus! includes sponsorware, OPTIONAL sponsorware.
Meaning you don’t HAVE TO install it to use Messenger Plus!.
As for your last point, there is a community known as mess.be that do exactly as you mention and NONE of them have reported ANY stability problems related to usage of said patches/addons.
As for myself, MSN Messenger has never been unstable, unless it’s a result of testing a beta application.
So yes, FREE is better in this case.
If all of those modifications uses 50mb of memory, then you really need to get a better computer. In fact, 50mb of memory is actually nothing anyway.
And there you go again, forcing people to believe that your opinion is the only right one. I highly suggest you stop doing so, before you get in too deep and can’t get out.

MemberFor anyone that wants to trash messenger plus plz read before you go and start saying untrue and bogus bs about messenger plus. http://www.msghelp.net/showthread.php?tid=21598 http://www.msgplus.net/help_faq.php it doesnt install spyware it installs some adware and its optional. I cant believe everyone has stopped reading and stop paying attention to boxes that popup when you install software. Read the faqs and the forums.

ParticipantDread, the fact that their ignorance controls the power of mind is very sad. If they want to be ignorant and buy a licence to Messenger:mate, power to them, but if they want to bash Plus, well… be sure to know they wont win 🙂

MemberSome of you should work for Patchou, you do a Nice job advertising it. Anyway, I decided to test the newest version of Plus! since the older ones were full of ad-ware even without the sponsor and were unstable.
This new version? No spyware, but horribly unstable. the msn messenger gets screwed, You can’t keep a stable conversation without freezing or having problems signing in. and that’s without the plug-ins.
It has a life of it’s own, it overrides some commands, and the day I installed it, My IntervideowinDVD icon, had the Icon of Spywareblaster, I had to delete the desktop icon of ITVWDVD so I could regain it to normal.
Plus! it’s as stable as a Drunken sailor, You can advertise it as long as you want, but the facts are real, After testing three diferent versions, Two with plug-ins. I can say Patchou likes to screw around with you

MemberMessenger Plus! is the most stable MSN Messenger add-on out there. Even in Beta it’s ultra-stable. I don’t know what you did wrong but Messenger Plus! doesn’t alter any desktop icons. Nor did the old version have ad-ware without the sponsor.
None of these facts are facts at all. A community of 1 million against your lone voice is insignificant.

Member🙂 I’ve been using MSN Plus! for a long time now and have never had any problems with it. As long as you don’t accept the SponosorWare, it doesn’t install anything else on your computer but MSN Plus! I have 3 different updated programs that I use for checking for Spyware/Adware/Viruses which are Ad-Aware, Norton Anti-Virus 2005 (this version checks for spyware/adware too) and Microsoft Anti-Spyware (beta). The Ad-Aware and Norton have never detected any kind of spyware/adware. I will tell you that the Microsoft Anti-Spyware WILL detect it (the whole program) as spyware but that is only because Microsoft owns the MSN Messenger and your really not suppose to alter it in any way, so any program that alters the Messenger will be considered Spyware by Microsoft. But since Patchou met with Microsoft executives recently, maybe that will be changing. I mean come on, do you think 2 million people a month would be downloading a program that contains spyware/adware? I don’t think so. I KNOW I wouldn’t. I’ve also recommended it to and had family download it with no problems. Another thing I wouldn’t do if it contained spyware/adware. Just my experience with and opinion on MSN Plus!

Your voice is Insignificant to me, And you shoud really go to work with patchou.
We’re not lying when we tell you that is unstable, just because we see problems with it doesn’t mean it’s ****in unreal. A comunity of one million? I don’t give a damn, You can defend it, you can humillate me all you want, but the facts are real that MSN plus Patchou is useless. I did not did Nothing wrong, I think Your head is wrong and if you want to ban me after this then be my guest, But I’m not gonna stand while you say My opinion is insignificant just because you idolize Patchou and his products. Open your eyes at last, advisor and stop humillating others to get your opinion. Because your experience with plus are not fact at alls as well. People like you remind me, of the errors high school teachers have in educating the children.
Like I said Ban me if you want to, but I will not let you attack me personally againt, You idiot.

thats funny, because its worked for thousands upon thousands of people perfectly, you can even disassemble the installer and prove it to yourself if you like…
Also, this spyware is particularly heinous. That gawdamn search bar it puts in IE and the gigantic series of bookmarks it persists was very annoying
Its just as big as any other toolbar, but yes I agree its quite useless
The uninstall instructions so graciously posted by “Patchou” on his/her forum simply did not work at all the way they were supposed to (my Messenger Plus! installer didn’t seem to think I had the sponsor installed).
if you READ, you would know you musn’t try to remove it with third party tools otherwise it wont work
It took a couple reboots and no less than sweeps by 3 spyware removal programs to get this far.
Good job, make it worse.
Of course, I didn’t figure out that it was Messenger Plus! that was re-running this crap after I cleaned it off until midway through the process, thanks to numerous posts by other people who were also side-swiped by “Patchou’s” shoddy software.
‘Messenger Plus!’ has nothing to do at all with the sponsor, it doesnt even know its ever installed. Why would it magically reinstall the sponsor?
Anyway, just a warning to others. Goodbye and good riddance Messenger Plus! Guess I’ll give Trillian a try.
You are disgraceful.
Patchou doesnt have a company. AFAIK, patchou doesn’t even have a job. He’s just an average person, probably around your age, that wants to make a program for everyone.
He needs income obviously, he INCLUDES AN OPTIONAL SPONSOR. If you **** up while removing it, THATS YOUR FAULT, ISNT IT.

The teachers in your education system must be below public standards if you still do not know how to spell words.
If you want to make an argument against something, you are welcome to. No one here is going to idolise or marginalize you for that. But when you want to be completely ignorant AND arrogant and provide facts that truly, make you look ignorant that just assures anyone reading your post that you really don’t know what you are talking about.I have worked on the beta testing process with Messenger Plus. And yet, when that beta was released, I hardly found any problems with the software. The MSN Messenger community is HUGE. The Messenger Plus beta testing also includes around 4 or 5 Microsoft MVP’s and the author behind mess.be. That being said, it has some huge talent and very intelligent people who use their talent to make sure the program is nothing but perfect.
As stated above, Patchou was dedicated enough to quit his day job to do what he loves, and that is program. And his application has been downloaded by over a million people. It truly makes you look ignorant when you can believe that hundrends of thousands of people can understand to read EULAS and TOS before their install software. That in itself proves that you are ignorant if you cannot read instructions before installing.
The “ADWARE” which is completely different than “SPYWARE” (and if you don’t understand the difference between the two, than I suggest you Google yourself an answer). And best of all, Messenger Plus can have NO adware (for free!) if you can only be smart enough to read instructions and choose not to install the adware when you install Plus.
Now if you were intelligent enough to follow VERY *and I mean very friggen simple* instructions on how to remove the adware you shouldn’t have anything to bitch about. Yet, people choose not to read those instructions, and we then have people like above, complaining and unable to complete a sentence with proper spelling, grammer and the works.
