I’m getting these pop-ups that have a heading that says” Messenger Service”
and says that there’s a* security risk* on my local machine. Is says go to http://WWW.messengerstopper.com to protect my puter frm pop-ups…I also get them from destroyads.com and endads.com… How do I get this to stop!!!! I’m new to aim so I need help bad….. Tnx in advance Pete..
[Edit]: Topic moved to ‘Random Ramblings’. This has no relation with AIM whatsoever.
Do you have adware, and if so, have you installed udpates lately?
its unrelated to AIM, its actually a “feature” in Windows XP.
To disable it:
Open Control Panel
Go to Administrative Tools
Open Services
Scroll down to Messenger
Right click it and choose Properties
Press Stop
From the drop down menu, choose Disabled
that should work, and as far as i know, disabling it has no negative affects
Babaloulou, I did as you said and we’ll see what happens..But why would the pop-ups start after i started the aim account? or was it just timing…hi..At any rate tnx for the quick reply…..I’ll let you know what happens….Pete..
Believe it was just timing… or maybe you just started using the internet a lot more when you got AIM (the pop ups can only come in while on the internet, I believe)
What timing! I am redoing my network and I took off my router last night. Then about 10 minutes ago, I got my very first spam! A quick search, and voilà! I find the answer right here! Thanks for the info, babaloulou.
BTW- My software firewall didn’t even ask if I wanted it to connect. Very unusual…
Babaloulou, Back to let you know it worked.. Tnx for your knowledge…..
