USA Today
June 19, 2001
Many Net-surfing teens and preteens receive unwanted sexual solicitations from strangers online, but most are blasé about it, say two studies out Wednesday— kids assume it is all part of being online.
Almost 20% have been approached, say researchers with the Crimes Against Children Research Center at the University of New Hampshire-Durham, in the Journal of the American Medical Association, out Wednesday. Girls and those ages 14 to 17 are more likely to be solicited; depressed kids and those who hang out in chat rooms also are more likely to report unwanted contacts.
