MemberOk,
Iv just downloaded and installed the new msn messenger 7.5 (previously had version 7 with msgplus 3.54) and went to sign in and it did log me in but froze before it displayed my contact list. I tried a few times and also tried re-installing messenger with no success. Also, some times it froze my whole computer and i had to hit the reset button. This has been happening quite recently, so im not sure if its an msn messenger problem or not – could have happened due to version 7 as well? I have recently formatted and installed windows and since then my machine has been locking up, and i believe it could have something to do with msn messenger – not sure though!Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

ParticipantHi mh52 and welcome to BBB.
Can you provide us with a bit more inforomation about your system please, like what version of windows are you using? Have u made and virus scans lately to see if your pc is infected?
Also, you said that you had messenger plus before, do you have any addon at the moment?August 25, 2005 at 8:00 pm #128565mh52
MemberHi,
I am running :
Windows XP Pro SP2
Althon64 3400
1024mb RAM
Norton Antivirus 2005I currently have messenger 7 installed as I wanted to go on msn, and have re-installed msgplus 3.54. (I removed this when trying to get messenger 7.5 working). This is the only add-on software I have installed for messenger. I would like to try completely removing messenger from my machine in order to see if a fresh install of version 7.5 would cure the problem. Is there a program that will completey remove all files and registry keys for me? I will run a virus scan tonight and see what comes up, although I do not believe my system is infected – but I will definately run a scan.
Please let me know if there is any more information that would be helpful.
Thanks again

ParticipantDid the virus scan show anything?
Ok here is what you’ will have to type to uninstall mesenger.
Click “Start” -> “Run”
Copy and paste this:RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%INFmsmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
Also have a look at this page for an even more detailed uninstalling method from the registry.

MemberOk, got it working now! thanks. I ran that line of code and reinstalled msn messenger 7.5 and clicked on login. For some reason it took over a minute to login in, during which msn froze and said it was “not responding” but I left it running and eventually logged in. Second time worked ok, so i guess it was just because it was the first time it had run. Thanks for you help.
