MSN Messenger Adds Text Ads

Microsoft has quietly slipped in text ads into MSN Messenger’s IM interface. When you open a conversation window with someone, you may notice them at the bottom of your chat window.

Unlike the ubiquitous text ads popularized by Google Adsense, these ads are not based on the text of your messages. But they do tend to cheapen the otherwise clean interface of MSN Messenger.

I believe the Mess Patch does allow you to remove them though…

I had seen the text ads, but until recently, they had always been internal Microsoft promotions (at least for me). Only recently did I begin getting ads for mortgages and other non-Microsoft products.
