ParticipantReinstalling it would be your best bet. Download the recent official version here http://messenger.msn.com Version 6 is due out tommorrow, so wait for that maybe. You can still get the Preview version here – http://messenger.msn.ca/download/v6preview.asp?client=1

Memberuggg, windows me, no chance there. but i ran into the same problem. make sure your messanger is working. sometimes msn wont run without it.
note: this is only a problem if your running msn 8. Msn 8 is set to link all of the msn programs together so if one wont run on mine the other wont.

ParticipantTry opening it from its root folder, which would be located here:
{system root}C:/Program Files/MSN Messenger/msnmsgr.exeIf you are able to open it from here, your current shortcuts on your desktop and Start-Menu may be pointing to the wrong source. Just hold alt and drag the msnmsgr.exe file to the desktop to create a new shortcut. Also, under Options | General – there is a check box to enable Messenger to startup with Windows.
If that doesn’t help, when re-installing try uninstalling all versions of MSN Messenger first. Might help.

Memberi’ve had this problem since july 16th at 12pm..some where around that time.
ok guys..you know how i right click on the icon of MSN MESSENGER on the desktop and go to properties? ok…so i went to properties and went to the “shortcut” tab..the TARGET column..and the “find target…” and the “change icon…” button are greyed out. but on other programs, those aren’t greyed out. There maybe i gave u a glue or something on what is happening with my comp.

MemberSorry seph, didnt see that. Hmm the shortcut for MSN is just like that. Mine is like that too. Its very odd that its not working for you, and you have reinstalled it. I would say contact microsoft about the problem, but it would take weeks for a reply. I’m at a loss, seeing as you seem to have exausted all avenues. 🙁
Maybe someone else has an idea?
