ParticipantI agree with all of those categories Tiger except for 80’s though :p There are many classic pop, rock and ballad songs that I simply love. One of the most memorable and quality music decades in my humble opinion.

Ditto :p The 80’s had some good music attached to it, kind of follwing in the wake of the 70’s and yet trying out it’s own thing, which I liked. Everything else, though, Tigerblade, you hit the nail on the head.February 19, 2006 at 12:38 am #133627scenesterxxx
MemberWell, the songs I hate are usually the ones that are overplayed on the radio. For example, when they used to overplay “The Reason” by Hoobastank. I don’t think that song was cool to begin with, and it just got annoying.
And then there are those rock bands such as Yellowcard and New Found Glory, where all they do is sing about girls, and their voices sound like girls (Although they may have a few good songs). They can be quite irritating too.
-DanWhat an idiot.
They for 1 don’t sing like girls…February 26, 2006 at 12:11 am #133628imported_TakODa
MemberMost of the radio stations here play the same 50 songs 50 times a day, so I don’t listen to any of them, except maybe for the local college station. They play local (Cajun) music on weekend mornings, world music weekend nights – programs such as Afropop Worldwide and Thistle & Shamrock. They carry World Cafe on weekday mornings, which I absolutely love. Weekday afternoons they usually play classical or jazz and blues music.

MemberAll of you will probably hate on me for this since noone really listens to “techno” but that’s what I turned to about 3 years ago.
I got sick of all of the mainstream crap the radio stations kept playing and found Electronica: Trance, Drum ‘n Bass, Breaks, Hard Trance, all of it.
It’s a lot more fun to me, and is never overplayed because, well, it isn’t played at all on the radio! (at least in the U.S.). Excluding dance radio stations in like Miami.
But yeah…there’s always new artists and sounds, and it’s great.
And please don’t say “Oh but techno just goes ‘boom chee boom chee” for 7 minutes!” because that’s simply not true. Those are only the “club mixes” of the songs, made exclusively to last long and keep the beat going in the club.
Alright I’m done. :p

Yes! YES! I love techno. And almost anything electronic in general. You are definetely in the same boat as I am. Heheh, sometimes I wish I could create my own radio station… and all it would play is electronic music like techno, drum and bass, etc.
I’m glad you made that point about club mixes. I have not heard a lot of club mixes that I like, except the Monster Mix of Insomnia, by Faithless. These kind of songs repeat the same beat over and over, so either I like the whole song or I don’t.
Then there’s intelligent dance music, which is “a style of experimental electronic music with an emphasis on unconventional sequencing and processing.” Aphex Twin has created some music like this (by the way, if you don’t know who Aphex Twin is, check him out now); for example, his Come to Daddy song. It isn’t really dance music, but it is definetely one of the most brilliant songs I have ever heard. It’s very complex, because the drumbeats do not repeat themselves at all, and it’s pretty crazy. The music video really rocks too. I could ramble on about Aphex Twin all night, but it’s getting pretty late here and we’re already kind of off-topic anyway.

ParticipantDon’t worry about being off-topic, it’s the Off Topic forum anyway… right?
And I too like techno, although these days techno is a much smaller proportion of my playlist. The Crystal Method is the greatest.I realized today that one of the songs I cannot STAND to hear anymore is “California” by Phantom Planet. My roommate and one of his friends play it on their guitars (loudly) every weekend when his friend comes down. Today I only heard it around… I dunno, 83 times. Ok that’s an exaggeration. It was more like 80 times.
