MemberMany of those who know me know that I dislike almost every holiday out there with Valentine’s Day being no exception. But that doesn’t mean I’ll completely disregard it as rubbish or as such, so I’m going to try to further my understanding of the day itself along with the history of the day. Sure, I could think up a couple choice words to describe Valentine’s Day, but I’ll just be nice about it in this post, okay? Instead, I’ll list two random objections of mine for the “day of love” as many refer to it as.
-The commercialization that someone has to give somebody gifts, candy and various other adult themed items to “prove” you love somebody. Do people really take this seriously? I feel sorry for anyone who feels a spouse or lover needs to buy them gifts to show they care (and vice versa). There’s certainly other ways to do this without needing to have “bragging rights”.
-The idea that a person’s passion and love needs to be expressed in a “extra special” manner on that day. Well, I fail to realize and understand why people can’t treat every day like Valentine’s Day and treat his/her spouse or lover with love, kindness and respect?
I will admit that the *only* things I actually like and enjoy about Valentine’s Day is the conversation heart candy and the pretty amazing love songs. Have you guys ever read the messages on the candy? Things like “Kiss Me”, “Love You”, “Marry Me” and “Hug Me” make me want to puke. If I had my way, I’d have a couple choices added to the hearts, wish to see a couple examples?

It’s a good thing I’m not in control of creating candy hearts, eh? 😉 With all joking aside that doesn’t mean I won’t give Valentine’s Day the benefit of the doubt or even dismiss it completely. But I want to know what you guys and gals think and feel about Valentine’s Day. So, if you have an opinion (which is good or bad) I’d like to hear it. 🙂 What does the day mean to you? Are you Pro-Valentine’s Day or Anti-Valentine’s Day?
Thanks for reading. 🙂

ParticipantJust another Hallmark Holiday. Fortunately my girlfriend agrees with me (seriously!) so I’m okay in that department.

ParticipantEven if I don’t like the highly over commercialized day can I still have some heart candy?
