MemberHey guys,
So you know that dirty habit you have of checking the away-message/profile of *everybody* online in your Buddy List? You have to right-click their screen name, click “Get Buddy Info…”, and finally click “Close” when you’re done looking at the IM profile. Repeat for every single active SN. Okay, obviously this isn’t the most complicated or time-consuming activity, but it’s kind of a hassle when you want to be updated on over 100 friends that happen to be online all at once.
What I propose is this: a program that dynamically lists the current away messages of your AIM buddies in a SINGLE window. The program refreshes every several minutes, and puts the newest changed/added away message at the top of the list. In this way, you’re able to easily keep track of your friends’ activities, especially the ones that change their away message 5+ times in a single day (e.g. me). A program that could pull this off automatically would mean you wouldn’t even have to be at your computer to check your friends’ away messages continuously — once you get back to your desktop, a log for the day would be waiting for you. Perhaps you could set this program to “track” only those away messages of specific friends you could designate in an Options window.
Get my drift? I’ve asked some programming friends of mine to try out this project, but none claimed to have the time for it — although it seems like a relatively simple program to write. So I’m making a mass appeal for help. I would *really* like to see this sort of plug-in implemented, and I could see it becoming quite popular… please let me know if you’re going to give it a shot!

MemberThe issue isn’t whether your buddies are away, it’s what their away messages actually contain… there’s a distinct difference. And okay, so I wouldn’t want a log of 100 buddies’ away messages during any given day, but I *personally* have about 20-30 friends whose away messages I like to keep updated with regularly. If it’s not because I want to know what they’re up to, it’s because they insert clever quotes or stories into their away messages, etc. It’s my friends with creative, fun away messages I’d want to keep track of.

KeymasterKind of a cool idea. I know that you can do this now with Trillian. Just open Trillian’s “AIM Status Window” and you can see when people log on, go idle, change their status
or away message, or logoff. You can choose to save these “server messages” to a log if you want, or just scroll through them. It’s close, but not complete, because it doesn’t actually show you their away message. 🙁

MemberIt doesn’t. But maybe Jim Dennis could add this feature to a future release of DeadAIM?
