MemberHi all! I am new to the forum and was hoping that I could get a little help.
I run AIM at work. Running the latest (I think) version of 5.5.3415. I have to run this through our proxy and have been running it this way for some time now. Over the past 6 months my AIM will get automatically disconnected and then will reconnect (because I have it set to automatically do so) immediately. This happens roughly every 6 minutes or so. Well, of course after a certain number of reconnects it tells me that I have attempted to log on too many times and I have to wait 15 minutes before I can log on again.
I cannot remember when this began happening and if it coincided with an AIM upgrade or if it might be something on my work’s network doing this. I never got around to it and when it first started happening I just wrote it off to network problems here so I didn’t think much of it. But then time passed and now I can’t remember if it started happening when I upgraded AIM.
Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions about this and how to stop it from happening? It’s very annoying.
Also, I was going to try to go back to an earlier version like 4.8 or something. However, how do you get an older version to install without getting the message about running an obsolete version of AIM. When I installed the 4.8 version and tried to log on it told me that I am attempting to run an obsolete version and that i must upgrade and will not allow me to sign on with version 4.8.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help or suggestions!
Jim

MemberOK, forget what I asked about the “obsolete version” message. I was trying to install 5.0 when I got that message, not 4.8. 4.8 let me in without any problem, but it did NOT solve my frequent disconnection issue.
Any thoughts?

ParticipantDoes your work have a dial-up connection? I used to have dial-up and after I upgraded AIM, the exact same problem occured. You might want to stick to the older version.
Go here to get version 4.8: http://ftp.newaol.com/aim/win95/Install_AIM_4.8.2790.exe
P.S. To avoid a double post you can click on the edit(paper with green pencil, that says edit when you move the mouse over it) and fix any probs in your message.

MemberNo dial-up at work, unfortunately.
Also, I was able to get 4.8 installed and the same disconnection problem occurs. So it does not appear that it’s an AIM issue. But was wondering if anyone knew any settings or anything that I could tweak or why my network might be causing the frequent disconnection problems.

MemberHey alana – Unfortunately since I work for a larger corporation that isn’t an option for me. This is very frustrating. The thing is that I ran AIM for almost a year without this happening. I have tested it out now by going back to an earlier version but the disconnection still happens. Not sure what may have changed on our network or how to work around it. But, if anyone has any additional suggestions, I’m all ears.
