MemberNew yahoo Profiles – Info and Tutorial
As you may or may not know, yahoo changed their profile AGAIN.
Now everyone is complaining about it and no one likes it.
Everyone’s biggest problem with the new profile system is that there are no instructions on how to do anything.
So, after playing around with it, here are some simple instructions to help to get your profile online.
People are complaining that no one can see their profile or the profile says “Opps nothing to see here”.
If you want people to SEE your profile then you need to set it up like this:
Go to your profile
Click on settings on the right
Click on People Search (grayed out box on the right)
Click the box that says allow people to find me, then pick the names you want people to be able to view you under.GUESTBOOK
If you want people to be able to see and sign your guest book you must turn it on.
Go to settings
Next to Guestbook, change My Connections, to Anyone.EDIT YOUR PHOTO
Click on MY PROFILE
Next to your picture, click on CHANGE PHOTO
I’m still playing around with it, but when I find more, I’ll let you know.
NettiBelow – is the blog and info about the new profiles

MemberI don’t like the new profiles either, I keep getting that “oops it’s not here” messages. Also is the yahoo member directory search gone? Everytime I try to find it, it takes me back to my profile. Did yahoo finally chunk it? Wouldn’t surprise me, the yahoo member search hasn’t worked since May. I am betting it’s completely gone.

You will continue to get that error message, until you set it up, so that people can view it. Right now its set so ONLY people you approve can see it. Once you change that, as I’ve indicated above, people will be able to see it.
yahoo members.
As part of the set up process, you are asked if you want people to be able to search for you. So I don’t think this has disappeared, I think it’s changed.
It just came out yesterday and once we give people a chance to update their profiles, the search option will be back up and running.

KeymasterThanks for the post, Netti! Long time, no see!
I haven’t checked out the new profiles, but I’ve read a lot about them and I personally like the direction they’ve taken. With so many different social networks out there, I’m all for sites that aggregate this information and help give me “one-stop shopping.”

MemberHey Jeff.. I know sorry about that, hopefully that will change.
I’m not as against the new profiles as everyone else is, but I didn’t like the fact that they didn’t really explain how to set it up correctly.
Took me reading thru the Help section to realize HOW to set it up. Once it’s set up, it has the same info as the old profile, so whats the harm.
If I remember correctly Yahoo purchased MASH a year or so ago, and this is what they are using for the new profiles.

MemberSorry for the double post, but found some more info…
Managing your alias and profile.
Well finally a day AFTER the profiles were changed they decide to put on some kind of information and instructions. hehehehe
Key features of the below
1. They apologize
2. You only have ONE profile per account, you can connect it to different alias, but not different profiles per alias.
3. How to….
4. Tutorial pageArticle is as follows:
Hi all,
Many of you have expressed your concern with the newest version of profiles, and believe me, we’re reading and hearing your comments and are committed to helping you maximize your experience with the new profiles.
First off, we want to apologize straight away for not being more proactive in communicating in advance that we were making changes to our profiles. We should have let you know that change was coming.
The first issue many of you have brought up that we’d like to address right off the bat is the concern of those of you who have aliases on Yahoo! Groups, Games, Finance, and Chat. The new profile provides users with a single identity while they’re on the Yahoo! network. Some of you may have heard about Yahoo!’s new strategy for a more open and social network, which allows for you to have one identity while you’re using Yahoo!, essentially making you, you.
This doesn’t mean that you can’t still have an “alias” while you’re on the Yahoo! network-you can still use multiple identities on Groups, Chat, or Finance. However, these aliases CANNOT have their own profile page, nor can they have any unique profile data associated with them. This means that by default when another user clicks a link pointing to your alias, they’ll be greeted by a message telling them that “there is nothing to see here,” unless you bind your alias to your primary profile. This also means that if a user tries to search for you by your alias, they won’t be able to find you.
There’s a couple of ways around this, though, that we want to make sure you know about. First of all, you can of course create a completely new account so that you have one account for each identity you want to manage.
Second, if you want to, you can bind your alias to your profile, thus merging it to your identity.
If you choose to bind your aliases to your profile, anyone who clicks a link to see what was formerly your alias profile will now only see your main profile. Additionally, anyone who searches for you by your alias will now be able to find your main profile.
You now have a choice: you can either merge your identities, allowing users to view your main profile, or, you can keep your aliases separate from your main profile even though they won’t have their own profiles. The choice is up to you.
If you do bind an alias to your profile, you need to first make sure you have a profile.
To do this, go to: http://profiles.yahoo.com and set up your profile. When you log in you’ll be asked to go through the new user flow which will pull in your old profile data and give you the option of adding new information-meaning, you don’t have to start from scratch.
Once you’ve created your new profile, go here:
From there, you’ll be able to select which aliases are searchable and linked to your profile. You’ll also have the option of disconnecting any aliases from your profile you don’t want associated with your identity.
To add altogether new aliases to your account, go here:
.
Additionally, if you wish to allow all users to view your full and complete profile, whether they’re a connection or not, you can update this information by going here:
From here, you can select what portions of your profile you want to be visible to connections, as well as to people who have not yet become a connection.
We know this has been a rough transition for some of you and, and are committed to helping you use, understand, and (hopefully) enjoy your new profile.
If you want more information on how to use your profile, start with the new profiles tutorial, located here: Welcome to the Profiles Tutorials!: Index
We also know lots of you worked hard on your old profiles and want your data. If you feel like you’re missing data, we’ve saved a copy of your old profile (and alias) and our Customer Care team can retrieve this information. You won’t, however, be able to revert back to your old profile format, but you will be able to get any data that you think is missing. To do this, please go here
to contact Customer Care.
Thanks for your patience.

MemberThanks for all this information. 🙂
I personally figured out 95% of all of this within the first couple minutes of playing with the new profiles a couple days ago when they were pushed out. I’m sure a lot of people will find this information highly informative and helpful. 🙂
Good detective work. 😉

KeymasterJust make a 360 profile if you don’t like the new profiles. The new ones are dumb. You can only have one url link in it. It won’t show your sendIM link like they used to. You can’t search members on it. It’s rediculous. What’s the point of even having the profile if nobody can find it. At least with 360 there is a location search. Oh, about the one link with the yahoo profiles I would put in there ymsgr:sendIM?yourID so that if someone does stumble upon it they can send you an IM easily without having to type your yahoo id in; or link to your 360 profile on yahoo and they could get to your sendIM link there. Not sure if putting ymsgr:sendIM?yourID would work in the url now that I think about it though because I think the http:// is automatically added to whatever you put in for the url, not sure I’ll check it and find out. Hope that helps.

Keymasterk, i just checked it out, I was mistaken, you can’t even have one link on the new yahoo profiles and that is retarted. And you can only have one on the 360 profiles. You used to be able to have 3 links on the old yahoo profiles and was very usefull to link to other profile pages you have or any other cool sites you know of. I guess to many people complain about clicking on links and getting viruses and things and don’t even know where they got them from and probably don’t know how to use a computer or anything about virus protection put an end to the links. And to many idiots putting in there personal info on there profile and then getting stalked is probably what put an end to the member directory search. Anyways yahoo sucks now.

MemberHow is not having links ‘retarded’ (poor choice of words in my opinion). Actually, you can post links on the new profiles, but they won’t become links. That doesn’t mean of course you can’t just copy and paste the URL into the address bar of your browser.
I don’t see the logic in attacking computer illiterate users though, I agree with Yahoo on this change personally. Also, I must object to calling people ‘idiots’, as adults (which is how Yahoo mostly is, adults only) we can put any amount of information we want. Freedom of choice. 😛 I fill out all my profiles and I don’t care if anyone tries to stalk me, haha.
Yahoo sucks now? Where have you been? Yahoo’s sucked for YEARS now, hehe.
December 11, 2008 at 11:16 pm #171617Jeff Hester
KeymasterWell, you asked me so I’ll answer. To put it short, convenience. Nobody want’s to take the time to select a piece of text and then copy and paste into there address bar. That’s not my only issue with yahoo though. And you agree that yahoo has sucked for years, what’s your reasons. Why do you think everyone uses myspace. You can do alot more with your profiles than you can with yahoo profiles or 360. What is the point in even having a regular profile now. You can’t even search profiles. Only your contacts can see them, they already know just about everything they need to know about you if they are your contact. Yahoo 360 has a search, but there is no way to narrow your search other than location and age and sex. With myspace you can search for last login. That way you don’t search through a bunch of profiles that was created 2 years ago and the person stopped using since then. And me I don’t care about my location being in my profile either, I’m just suggesting reasons yahoo may have stopped with the profile search I have no clue do you. I still use yahoo messenger I believe it’s still by far the best messenger. But it’s useless if you can’t find others to use it with. They keep taking away things that were great for no reason, atleast not any logical reason I can think of. First the user created rooms, then the profile pics(gave that back atleast). Taking away the ability to post links. I know I can just copy and paste right. Taken away member search. What is up with all of this. I think they want it that way. Why else would you go into their chatrooms and see an ad for Yahoo Personals. They figure they take away all the free ways you can meet people on yahoo they will get more to sign up for yahoo personals I believe. The more crapper, and yes, RETARDED, their free services are maybe more will sign up for their pay services.
The user rooms isn’t a big issue, but the bots are. There is a simple solution to fix this problem, and I know they will not do it because they would rather their chat rooms remain crappy like I mentioned above. I knew captcha would never work I’ve mentioned that plenty of times before. The only real reason to stop the bots in chat and make the chat rooms a more enjoyable to use like back before the bots came about is this, put the power in the users hands to kick users. Before you say that is stupid what are you thinking. I don’t mean put the power in each individual users hand, I mean in the majorities hand. Maybe not even the whole majority though.
Say for example, you got a room that can handle 50 users, you have about 40. And all of a sudden a user is IMing users, or texting in the chat room, I’m getting naked now, click here to see my cam. And a user clicks to ignore that person. Ok, in that case the bot should be ignored by that user, but if say 10 people in the room ignore that user or report as spam however they would want to implement it. Then it should automatically kick the user out of chat. Because if that many people have a problem with someone then definately they are disrupting chat.
If the person gets kicked out they shouldn’t be able to return to chat with in a set time frame as well, probably a 24 hour period I believe would be fine. But also set it up to where if a user gets kicked a set amount of times their id gets permanently banned from their servers. That is the only way to correct the problem, it will work, you would immediately see a decline in the bots.
Oh and b4 anyone one saying what if the bots ignore people and kick real users, well, first of all that wouldn’t be very smart since they are there to advertise to the real users.
It’s a simple, easy to implement, fail safe plan. Just give the power to the users. I would love to see someone try to debunk this and tell me it won’t work and why. Nobody to this day has, other than just saying that wouldn’t work the bots will never go away.
It will work but don’t ever worry about seing it done because they could care less about you going into a chat room being annoyed because it’s not like someone’s paying yahoo to put ads in their chat, remember back when that stopped. Now you go in thinking you’re going to meet someone maybe, get nothing but bots IMing you, getting frustrated, and then say maybe I’ll check out this yahoo personals thing they are showing me. NOT me I want yahoo chat back.
p.s.
I wasn’t attacking anyone in this forum at all or personally attacking any ‘idiots’. Just the idiots that ruin everything for everybody else. Like the ones who think that it’s yahoo’s responsibility to babysit their children and file law suits because they were in chat rooms they shouldn’t have been in instead of being a mature parent and monitoring their children on the internet. And also to the sick perverted idiots who created user rooms like “13 year old girls for older guys.”
