aimutation, no longer supported, not even that great
gaim, eh.
trillian, takes up way too much ram and space and such
I like that on GAIM and trillian that you can sort by status, but i would like to change the look of it and some other stuff.
I also would like to change the im sounds on GAIM.
i dunno its my most used program and i cant find a good one that i like.

MemberGaim will let you change IM sounds, have you checked your options? Also, give the new Gaim 2.0x Beta 3 a try.
You can skin Trillian however you like, they have a site open for skins you can download.
And have you tried Miranda? It’s very lightweight and skinnable.

Memberthanks for the reply, ive come to the conculsion GAIM is my favorite, i would like to make the away people and online people are little more distinctive, like different colors, like u see on adium on macs…. i know GAIM is highly customizable, or at least i thought, wondering if anyone know how to do that?

MemberI gave Miranda a shot, but it doesn’t run properly on Vista, feature wise it looks appealing however. AIM Pro is good, not bloated and supports the necessary features.

KeymasterI’d have to agree that there are no good IM programs out there at all. Each one has its own distinct advantages, but none of them seem to have it all, if you will.
I’ve been searching for a program that has all of AIM’s features, without all the bloat. And of course, in addition, a bunch of features added on, such as logging and aliasing and such. You say, im looking for a mere addon! Well, I’ll say, there arent many of those around any more…. I don’t particularly want to pay for messenger:mate, and middle_man came out with beta 3 yesterday… so ill keep my eyes on that.
But in reality, I was looking for a seperate program with all these features. As I said, AIM is bloated into oblivion. But none of the programs I’ve tried have come up to par at all.
Gaim – horrible interface, at times confusing, and the GTK is exactly the bloat i wanted to get rid of with AIM. Perhaps I didn’t give it a fair shot
Miranda – I NEVER could get this to work. And it looks quite petite on the features side anyways. Lots of plugins you say? I’m not looking for them, I say.
Trillian – Just no.I thought IM2 was a glimmer of hope, but now thats gone too. I dunno, I’ve lost faith in 3rd party IM’s, they all suck.
Now my hope lies in middle_man….
