MemberI have just installed MSN messenger 6.2 and the latest plus version, not too long ago I already had it on my pc and it worked fine, I changed the soundfiles and I got along fine with my msn.
But now I have reinstalled it and much to my horror….there is no sound…no sound at all.
Not even the original MSN sounds, not the sounds I want it to use…nothing!
And worse is that I can do nothing about it.
When I go to the sound-setup in my windows2000 where you decide what sounds to use for any device I do see the MSN messenger named there but no sounds underneath it for me to alter.
Just the name of MSN messenger.
I have reinstalled the whole messenger thing again and again…but there are no sounds anywhere.
So when I am chatting with friends and not looking at my screen I have no way of knowing that they are trying to get my attention!
So the problem isnt that the sounds are pointing to a file I moved or something like that.
There just are no sounds attached to msn…

MemberWell, ive not heard of that before, try installing MSNM 6.1 again, then post back here what happend, if it all works fine then its a bug in MSNM 6.2, if you go to Tools > Options > General, look under alerts, if you find that any are unticked, tick them.:)
If you still have problems, download the same version from another web-site, mayb it was the download from the site that wasn’t complete, did you download it from the official site ?

ParticipantIf you navigate to C:Program FilesMSN Messenger, do you see any sounds within here?
If not, I have zipped the default ones, and you can download them and extract them into the folder.

MemberYes there are about 5 sounds there that play fine on their own but just dont work in MSN somehow.
I tried replacing them with your sounds but that didnt do much either.:(May 2, 2004 at 11:43 pm #45710AwesomeSauce

Is that some sort of joke…?
Windows XP runs on a Win2K core, however they are obviously different OS’s.

MemberWell the only solution I have found was…go back to the previous version of MSN, so not 6.2 but a older one.
When I did this I got my sounds back, then I reinstalled the new version and this one took over the old sounds so now I have version 6.2 with sounds again.
Thank you all for your help.May 6, 2004 at 4:50 am #45720zelda4555

It has windows 2000 pro, I didnt know what was up the sound files were in their place and all. but then I found out the one on http://messenger.msn.com was only for windows xp, as I have been told. so the fix was to download the one for your Operating Sytem here is the link for what version you want:
