MemberThere is this feature for Norton Internet Security to enable a toolbar in my IE and I followed the instructions to find that the button is grayed out (making it unclickable). Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Im running Windows Xp Mce 2005 and IE 6.

KeymasterThis is a common problem found in Norton Internet Security as I had it as well when I used to have the program. When asking Norton about this I remember them telling me as well that “there was no solution” (some help eh?). Anyway this is what they had told me to do:
—
To disable and then re-enable the Web Assistant
In Internet Explorer, click View > Toolbars > Web Assistant. There should be a checkmark next to it when you click it.
Again, click View > Toolbars > Web assistant. There should be no checkmark next to it when you click it.The Web assistant should now appear as usual

Unfortunately that did not work for me but you can still try it. What I did was a clean reinstall of Norton Internety Security and the option was now checked. You can also go into Norton Internet Security (unfortunately I forgot how the interface was) but perhaps there is an option there that you can check as well that will integrate Web Assistant to IE, although it already should do it on its own. If you do a clean reinstall make sure IE isn’t open.

KeymasterWell then I suggest reinstalling it and leave all programs closed. Perhaps that will do it.

I hate it when I ask a question about IE and theres always someone saying “Oh why dont you just switch to a better browser like Firefox or Opera.” The thing is that I DO NOT WANT TO and I asked because its my preference of using IE. I never asked for you to advertise to me. Just like last time I posted I got this response instead of an answer like https://bigblueball.com/forums/showpost.php?p=139041&postcount=11
anyways if I did a reinstall how do I save my settings?

Memberys8er2323,
Try this, Go to tools , manage add ons look for programs currently enabled in internet explorer. See if the web assistant is disabled or enabled.
If it is disabled enable it and click apply. Then go back to view and under toolbars you should see web-assistant put a check mark beside it if there isn’t one. It should then appear on your toolbars. ( I hope this helps, it worked for me )
