NY probably didn’t get it because Atlanta got it in 96, too recent.

I know Martin… Qwerty, are you harrassing the 9/11 event? Because it really was serious… Hundreds of innoccent lives were lost, and now many families are torn apart, heart broken, and live in fear. Just because it didn’t happen to your country doesn’t give you the right to harrass ours… And by the way, the Olympics does appear to be a target for a terrorist attack. Think about it.

MemberCalm down. It was a laugh at irony.
And no oatsie, im not “harrasing the 9/11 event”. I know it was really serious, yadda yadda yadda. Just chill.
And think about “the Olympics does appear to be a target for a terrorist attack. Think about it.”
I’m not stupid, of course it’s a target. I’m didn’t say that. In fact what I said was based on that very fact, I don’t think they siad no to NY because there was an attack there, as there could be an attack anywhere. Think about that.
And why don’t you think about this,
“The only reason I can think of for NY not winning is the terrorist threat, same goes for Madrid.”
Do you realise how dumb that sounds? There have been terrorist attacks in all of the elective cities. And there probably will be. Where ever they put the olympics, there is going to be a risk. BECAUSE it’s the olympics, not because of the location.
What I said about possible terrorism i stand by, i don’t think its a huge factor for the IOC.

MemberLet’s not turn this into a personal slanging match, calling each other’s personal opinions, “dumb”. Of course there has been terrorist attacks in elective cities, however…
New York – Sept 11th
Madrid – Eta Train BombingsParis and London, at the time of voting, had not had any recent major terrorist attacks. Of course it is a factor for the IOC, safety of the organisers and the athletes that will be competing there, that’s only natural.

MemberExcuse me. I didn’t call you personal opinion dumb.
Please, just read this carfully.
YES, obvioulsy safty is a factor for the IOC. I didn’t say it wasn’t. But just think about this.
Terrorsists would attack the olympics as it is the olympics, not due to the venue.
NYC and London are very similar. The IOC are nver going to say, “no, not NYC they have ahd a recent terrorsit attack”
I serioulsy doubt terrorsim history plays a large factor. London, or england, has one of the biggest histroies of terrorsim violence. Much bigger than the USA (im pretty sure at least).
In fact, in may respetcs, you could assume NYC is safer as security has been greatly increased since 9/11.

ParticipantI think there has been much time to think about security and Olympics 2012- London, as you see recent bomb explosions in London, 37 killed. There has been much time left 7 years, I can hope that these all seven years will bring this world to a peaceful situation but it dosen’t look so as the situation is getting worse and worse with the passage of time. Today its too early to predict the security situation in London year 2012.
Well, London good luck for the Olympics, hope all will be fine in 2012.July 7, 2005 at 8:25 pm #125605Jeff Hester
KeymasterCongratulations to London for their selection as the host city for the 2012 Olympics! I think any of the proposed host cities would’ve make excellent choices, but London won!
I’m saddened by today’s bombings, but I’m confident that it won’t dampen the enthusiasm of London and the rest of the world when the Olympics arrive.

MemberI think the world’s terrorist attacks MAY have had a very minute say in the choices.
If you do a little bit of research, back in the 1940s, when Munich, Germany hosted the Olympics, many of the world’s Jewish participants were held captive in a tower during WWII. Because the Nazis wanted to destroy all the Jews.
I’m not saying it is a factor or not. Obviously if Germany wanted to host the Olympics again, something like this would not play a factor, as it was over 60 years ago.
I just thought I would throw that piece of history in there.
