KeymasterI ran across this story today from ABC News:
Ladies, if faced with the decision of picking between a Humphrey Bogart in “Casablanca” — the cool, independent, self-sufficient type — or a Tom Hanks in “Sleepless in Seattle” — the sensitive, supportive, thinking type — who would you choose?
One Harvard professor argues that if you said Hanks, that’s just because you have been brainwashed by feminism.
“Women may say they want a sensitive man but they don’t always love one,” said Harvey Mansfield, professor of political philosophy at Harvard and author of “Manliness.” “They are sometimes much more attracted to a manly man. He may be more oblivious of their needs and their desires but impresses them more.”
In his controversial book, Mansfield argues that manliness has been hijacked by feminism and advocates of gender-neutral society. He defines manliness as confidence in the face of risk, and says America is on the verge of a manliness crisis.
“Men are still free to be manly; but there’s no justification for it, no welcome for it, no respect for it,” Mansfield said. “We’re losing the contribution manly men can make, and we’re confusing women and men, who don’t quite know what to do about manliness.”
So ladies, which do you prefer?

MemberI’m old fashioned. I think men should be men and women, women.
I don’t think a man who is sensitive can’t be manly. He can be both
Just like the end of the article suggests.I like men who can be both, but, I am greedy 🙂

ParticipantYou have to be both, it’s all about timing and when to be more manly or more sensitive.

ParticipantAccording to most females I know, what they truly desire is a sensitive man.By this they mean a sensitive man that’s not afraid to show his feelings, sensitive to her needs and and and…..;)

MemberI think they need to be a bit of both….I almost did not vote..but reading the criteria….I decided to vote…it’s true….the first flash in my mind was Bogart…but maybe I’ve been brainwashed by Bogart….as memory from when I was a youngin…learning the ways of public table manner….
There was a fish on my plate at a nice restaurant and it’s eyes were still in…and I felt bad because it was looking at me……so I picked it up by the tail, held it up to those at my table and said loudly “Here’s looking at you kid!” Yeah…I was about five then….Bogart’s been clouding my thoughts on men since then? Hmm….I’m not making sense….too much work….I’ll probably look back on this post and claim I did not write it!March 24, 2006 at 8:22 pm #140557sarahtowny

I guess it means that if you see some disgusting insect, jump in her arms going “eww eww eww”. How’s that for sensitive? *looks around…* what?
Ok so perhaps I can learn a thing or two from Dave. *takes notes*
P.S. GASPS! at what Sarah said! I like your bluntness.

A Girly-Man :p
A blatant girliness you can not get away with before others start thinking of you as a prancing, show tune-singing nancyboy 😉 so I don’t think this is their definition of a sensitive dude 😉April 25, 2006 at 5:49 am #140558Yuna
MemberI like a sensitive guy. You got to have a little bit of both lol. A guy who is manly but also has a sensitive side to him. I’m not talking about a wussy or girly guy >_<. I'm talking about one who shares his feelings and doesn't hide his emotions from a girl. 🙂

MemberI’d like to interject a little wisdom from a woman who’s had two husbands…it’s all the way a man carries himself, whether it be cool and confident or sensitive and caring. I think a man can offer a bit of both, but I find that in this day and age if a man is a man he should come across as manly and not hesitate in showing a woman how he feels. It’s a shame that if a man finds a woman attractive that he can’t even wink at her anymore without causing a stir! Men…take it from one who knows…if you find her appealing…show her! Don’t be obnoxious about it…just be….a man!

MemberWomen will say they want a sensitive guy, but deep down they know they just want a man so manly if he were to be cut testosterone would come out of his veins.
On the other hand most women have absolutely no problem with being just friends with sensitive guys.

amen to that. there’s also the little conundrum known as becoming an intellectual whore. (it’s not dirty like you’d think)
