MemberHaving Kazaa has changed my life when it comes to downloading music. BEfore P2P, if someone asked me what my favorite band was, I would say linkin park because they were the only band I really had heard of and the only one I really knew about. total I probably had about 20 songs. I now have 155, and it has changed my life. Everytime I’m on the computer I play music. It has inspired me to take the path of my Great Grandpa and Grandpa. They both were amazing piano players, and one made their living from it. I have picked up the guitar, and am excellent at it, like my dad. Without Kazaa, I would have never been introduced into real music, and wouldve never ben inspired to start playing the guitar.
Also, I have ADD, Attention Defecit Disorder. This makes it hard to pay attention and concentrate. It is almost impossible to do homework or think when anyone else around me is talking at home or if the TV is on. Music doesn’t distract like conversations and TV does, and has allowed me to work on my HW easily without trouble because It drowns out all noise and doesn’t really get into your head.
What new bands have you found from Kazaa that you think are awesome?

MemberThere’s more to filesharing than just KaZaA, much more. I actually listen to the radio a lot (to keep up with things and get inspiration) and when I hear a song that I like, I download it. 95% of my music knowledge comes from the radio. Funny thing is, most of my music knowledge also goes back to the radio again. 🙂

ParticipantI picked up on Three Days Grace, and Rascal Flats. I’ve now listen to my fare share to want to shoot em now… but it’s cool to find some artists that I would have never known about if it wasn’t for P2P.

ParticipantBefore P2P, It was difficult to hear new artists. Especially when you live in a small city with 2 radio stations, Country and Oldies. Thankfully the oldies station has updated to a newer format recently, but its still not the most diverse platform musically. I remember being introduced to Tool by getting a ride home from my job at Earls when I was 16 from some older guys. It blew me away, I had to have it. Once Napster and its predecessors arrived, things changed dramatically. I could look for new bands on Amazon or HMV.com and see what was new and what was being recommended. All of a sudden I could check out that jazz legend I’d read about, or that experimental band or even that underground band everyone was buzzing about. It really expanded my musical tastes. I kept buying the music I was already buying, about 1 or 2 Cd’s every few months, but I also enjoyed listening to music I wouldn’t normally spend my hard earned money on. I could get that song I liked, and find out if the rest of the album was just as good. Unfortunately, most of the artists that I purchase religiously have broken up, died or just faded away. I still purchase Cd’s, especially when they include bonus materials such as a DVD or even just some CD extras. But P2P has also made me appreciate more diverse music I wouldn’t normally experience.

Well when I used Kazaa I think it was okay. I mean you couldn’t really find a lot on it. Kazaa was very limited. On the other hand, I was able to find some really cool metal music by such bands as Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, and Slayer. As for downloading software I would still give Kazaa a 2 out of 10.
