MemberI saw a “person” on my messenger list..she had what was called a cam viewer lock thing..(or something like that) highlighted, it was beside her name in yahoo messenger .
What I would like to know is this..is there any programs out there that will let someone view my cam..without me knowing?
My cam setting say that friends have to be accepted by me to view my web cam….is there some program that can break through that and people can view me without knowing?
if so..pls inform…..makes me sick to think there is!
ty for your time

MemberHello Sara – and welcome to the Big Blue Ball. 🙂
That’s not a g00fy question!
I don’t think anyone could give you a 100% guarantee, but I for one have never heard of such a thing. I think you’re best to assume people CAN’T see you unless you authorise them – but just never stake your life on that!Even if someone COULD sneak past the “authorise”, and view you, they’d PROBABLY still at least show up in the list/count of who’s viewing you.
By the way, there are those who love to “pretend” they can crack through such barriers, and might TELL you they can. Some even might say “well, I see you are blonde” as if to prove they can see you – but many/most/all of these are just hoaxers, I think.
Until/unless you have some absolute PROOF that someone can see you without your permission…. assume not.
I hope that may help you relax a little.June 8, 2006 at 11:04 pm #145988K3zzeR
MemberIt is rather impossible, it would require somebody connecting to your PC, which is impossible if you have a firewall, because it will ask for your permission.
Rest assured that no person can view your webcam without permission.

MemberThank you both for your reply.
Beside this persons name on messenger said……and it was highlighted in blue…”viewer webcam loaded” and then some name that I cant remember beside that….like a program creator name or something….the next time I see it..i will write down exactly what it says.

MemberSara, it rather sounds to me that what you saw was THAT person showing THEIR camera, rather then trying to look at yours !??
Each direction is quite independent – for example if I choose to open MY cam on YM, a blue (clickable) link will appear beside my name, visible to all my friends, saying “view my webcam” by default, but those actual words are easily changed – mine for instance will say “EK_Cam – On now!”.
You, or anyone who sees that, can then click it, and see my cam (with or without the security check first, depending on how I have me settings).
But if you were to do that, it’s completely irrelevant whether YOU even HAVE a webcam – MY watching YOU is a completely different transaction. Is is probable that THAT’s all you saw, I suspect ?

MemberYes Eagle, That is a possibility…Ive changed my webcam link as well to say something else…so anythings possible I suppose on here .
She is also known for booting and having other programs, thats why my friends and I were curious if she may possibly have some other type of ‘power tool’.I’ve read other posts about people wondering if such program exists…so many say yes it does…and so many say no it doesnt…..who knows what to believe right?
Thanks for taking time to reply to my posts.

She just has her webcam on with that message, nothing to worry about.
sara_g00fy wrote:What I would like to know is this..is there any programs out there that will let someone view my cam..without me knowing?I’m afraid the answer is YES. The very common program that circulates the internet allows people to connect to anyone’s webcam by just knowing your nick. When they connect, you will be prompted asking whether you allow “anonymous” view your webcam. If you accidentally click yes, or typing without looking at the screen, which allow them to view your webcam.
Another underground version of the program allows them to view your webcam without displaying any permission dialog nor will it shows their name on your “Who’s viewing my webcam” list. It is underground, so hopefully not many have it on their hands.
Hope this helps, and may GOD helps us all.
P.S: Please DO NOT ask me for programs such as these. It is ILLEGAL. Thank you.

Is there a way to find out if somebody is using this program on your cam (except somebody you dont know telling you what you are doing right now lol) and how to block it?

netstat only tells you what IP(s) connected to your computer. Not everyone knows how to use it, or have the time to check it every time. Also, netstat do not block them from seeing your webcam. Please, next time when you post, say a little bit more, instead of just…”netstat”. Not everyone knows what you mean 😮

MemberEagle- When you change the highlighted message for your webcam, The little webcam icon still shows beside that message right? Indicating that its your webcam thats on? (someone changed their blue hightlighted message, but I STILL was able to tell it was a webcam that was on-because of the little cam picture ) …in the case of this person with the suspected viewer program- there is NO little cam icon.
