MemberAlright guys,
I noticed the portal was working, so I thought I’d open up a discussion about what we’re going to do to it.
What content will it have?
How far back will our information go? (some people like to look back on the history of their favourite IM)
Will we cover the shady areas? (polygamy…ad removal…)Most importantly,
How are we going to make our BigBlueBall MSN Messenger site unique from all those others out there? How are we going to show everyone that we’re the best? Because we are. Some other points:
– I think it would be best if all content is unique and our own. This means no copying and pasting 🙂
– The problem with sites like Mess.be is their lack of a user-friendly site. Let’s make this our number one priorty.Well, I’d like to know what you guys think about what I’ve said and would like to encourage you to put down your own ideas. Planning ahead is the best way to be the best.

ParticipantI’ve thought about this for a while, and I actually took a look at the wayback machine on what the MSN Center used to look a few years ago.

Anyway, I’m thinking we can build from that. However, content aside for one moment, exactly HOW are we going to structure what it’s going to look like? I mean, the current test site just looks like a news portal to me. I don’t know how it’s going to translate into a “center” at least for the plans we have. I mean, it works for Spike’s Other IM Center, but how for us?
OK, now with that said I’ll list some stuff I think we are going to include:
First of all, I still like the idea of tying it in with Messenger Mods (.com). Secondly, we should be including everything that is popular with MSN/WLM. And if that includes the ‘shady areas’ so be it.
Obviously, the two main area focus’ I’d like to achieve is, modifications and solutions to problems.
This time, we should score around the web and pick out the best features of what makes an MSN Messenger related website great and make it into something that we can provide in a nutshell.
I think I did a good thing with PlusLite, I mean it was fun but we need consistent effort from the whole team. The thing I enjoyed from my last site was the total commitment and attitude that we had for what we were trying to do, and I think it worked out well.
– I personally love the “How WLM works” website, perhaps we can tie that in some how?
– Complete tutorials on how-to’s about EVERYTHING we possibly can regarding this client. We should try and have every possible scenario played out before even someone asking. There isn’t many “tricks” or the such these days for WLM as there was with MSN, but I want this center to be in people’s minds when they ask them selves, “they, I wonder how …”. I want BBB to be the first in their minds. Mess.be doesn’t have the greatest reputation among people, and not that it’s a bad thing, but maybe we can build on what mess.be can’t give people. A complete good name? I dunno…. we have a solid team, I’m sure we can discuss that later. Our WLM news needs to be kicked up a notch as well. Are we going to deploy news only on a “big time” basis, or note all the small stuff like mess.be does?
And lastly, I want everyone to know who we are. A lot of us already have reputations with other people in the Messenger world, but we do have some newer faces in regards to “being known”. I want to have a ‘get to know the team’ page as well, where we give a little bit about who we are, where we come from, our resumes (if applicable) and basically why we choose MSN/WLM over the rest.
Come on folks, what are YOUR ideas?

KeymasterThe one thing you can start on NOW is making new pages. Detn8r is correct — the CMS “home” looks like a news portal but that is NOT how the IM Centers will look. That part will take a bit of time and effort to work out, but no matter how the IM Centers are setup, the content behind them will be on pages. These can be setup now.
Yes, I realize that the format sucks right now. Don’t worry about it. Just “pour” the content in and when we settle on the right look, it’ll automatically work. The only thing that I would hold off on is anything involving fixed width tables, as those might need to be changed.

MemberWell I would be happy to write some pages on error codes and solutions, tutorials etc
If you can give me a template of how you want it laid out, I can start straight away 🙂
