MemberHere at work we have a small group of people, around 10 or so. As we often have to travel abroad on research stages or to congresses, we agreed in bringing along postcards from those places to everybody in the group, or at least to every different office.
I know nowadays postcards are supposed to be an out-of-date way of communication, but, as I steared at my drawer this morning and saw all those porstcards, I realized how nice is to have someone that remembers you when they are far away. And you physically have them, handwritten, in a much more personal way than a mere e-mail.
In my “way back to those good all times” I realized that since I have my digital camera I hardly ever compose a photo album, and I run to the store to get an analogic camera, and therefore, have a permanent memory of my next trip (yes, I know you can print out the ones from the digital, but they end up in a folder, maybe I am lazy)
Anyway, lol, I went out of topic myself, my idea in posting this, was asking the very few people that post in Food Romance and OED section, if any of them was interested in sending/receiving postcards. Of course, that implies exchanging personal information, and so, it is not an open call to the rest of the world, just the usual people around BBB.
What do you think? Furthermore, if you would want to give your opinion about this “trip to the old times”, is more than welcome.

MemberSounds like the days when having a pen-pal made people smile. Cute idea Science. I’d be happy to exchange postcards if you’d like some from here in the states.

KeymasterThat’s a charming idea, Science. You can count me in. There is something personal about a hand-written note that email, IM and ecards just can’t duplicate.
One word of caution (probably doesn’t need to be said but I’ll say it anyway) —
Don’t post your personal info here in the forum. If you’d like to exchange postcards, express your interest here, but then contact each other privately (use the little email icon to send them an email).

ParticipantOh dear God, I can’t wait for what the parents of lil Johny are going to say when he recieves a letter from Pakistan, or Australia.
Other than that… I think it’s an awesome idea. My vote is also in.March 1, 2004 at 1:23 pm #50271sciencefeeling
MemberI recently (yesterday) went out on a day trip to Aranjuez (an hour drive south of Madrid). Aranjuez is an Spanish Royal Villa, which means…at some point in history a King builded a Royal Palace there, or a Royal Farmacy or a Royal Library, or a Royal Monastery.
There are seven Royal Palaces in spain. Most of them around Madrid (normal in those days where communications were not that developed), each one more beautiful…
And you are thinking…so why is she posting her trip in Postcards from around the globe???
That is right guys!! I got you two (Jeff and detn8r) postcards from The Royal Palace of Aranjuez.I am kind of worried that I think more about two BBB members than about my friends:eek:…is BBB becoming an obsession?:D

Membersciencefeeling,
I love postcards! In fact I collect them. I have many from my trips
to Spain! Those are among my favorties!I don’t know if its allowed, but another idea (since so many have
scanners and digital cameras available to us) to post postcards
from each of our personal regions of the world right here in this
forum!Like this:

MemberGreat idea! Sign me up. I’ll be happy to reciprocate from my home state as well as from my business and other travels abroad! I also see a double benefit from fellow stamp collectors as well! Hope this catches on! David (wildfire763@aol.com or wildfire7632001@yahoo.com):)

MemberSo how are we proceeding with this if someone wants to be involved? Send those who want to exchange an e-mail with an address?

Yes, just use the email link above their post to contact them. Please do NOT post your address here in the forums. Some people may prefer to share their work address or a PO Box to protect their privacy. If you’re uncomfortable sharing your address with someone via email, don’t do it.

MemberI am sorry I was away since wednesday…I am sure you all understand I couldnt think of postcards.
I was in San Sebastian during the tragedy, I had in mind to get postcards for you all, but, after thursday, that thought got deleted in my mind. I am sorry I didnt get you postcards from this one trip, I am sure you perfectly understand.
I got browneyes and wildfire messages!!!, don’t think I didn’t, I was just too shocked to answer, but you are in the list….what I wonder is why Faizan isn’t!!!, will you please e-mail me? I want a postcard from you too!!!
I really hope you are all alright and happy (yes, I am very sensitive these days), and I hope we all live in peace from now on.
