MemberPrevent Windows Messenger from automatically running at startup and can also fix the problem that says
“u are signed in from another location” etc cuz windows messenger is running wen ur running msn messenger)Start,Run, then type in gpedit.msc
(NOT AVALIABLE IN XP HOME)
Computer Configuration/Admistrative Templates/Windows Components/Windows Messenger then alter the settings in the right paneIf u have Windows xp Home edition then download this file:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts/xp_messenger_autorun.vbs
Download xp_messenger_autorun.vbs and save this file to your hard drive.
Navigate to where you saved it and double click the file.
A confirmation dialog will appear and remind you to log off/back
on or restart your computer.U CAN STILL USE WINDOWS MESSENGER IF U WANT TO BY LOADING IT MANUALLY
To prevent Windows Messenger from signing in when you run Outlook Express
In Outlook Express, click Options on the Tools menu.
On the General tab, click to clear the Automatically log on to Windows Messenger check box.
Click OKFebruary 14, 2004 at 7:51 pm #49809imported_EvilSeph
MemberShould I remove Windows Messenger?
All this time I’ve been a part of the MSN Messenger community, one of the most asked questions is “How do I remove Windows Messenger from Windows XP”.
Most people tell you to do this:
Quote:quote:Go to Start –> Run –> type: RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%INFmsmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove –> Press EnterAlthough almost all of us already know the answer was to do that above, I’m here to tell you it’s wrong. Though removing Windows Messenger would seem a blessing, doing so would effectively lag your Outlook/Outlook Express as well as cause some Windows XP features to cease functioning.
Luckily there is an alternative. Instead of uninstalling Windows Messenger, you should hide it. The only way I know of so far would be to use an application and thanks to CookieRevised (a m8 of mine), I now know of the program.

MemberYou can actually remove Windows Messenger by following the steps below, I did it and it didn’t seem to make my Outlook express lag.
On XP Systems without SP1:
Click Start – Run, then type the following:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%INFmsmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
Press ENTER
Restart WindowsOn XP Systems WITH SP 1:
– Control Panel
– Add / Remove Programs
– Click on “Add/Remove Windows Components” on the left
– Un-check “Windows Messenger”
– Click “NEXT”
– Click “Finish”
– RebootFebruary 14, 2004 at 9:08 pm #49808imported_EvilSeph
MemberBelieve me, removing Windows Messenger isn’t a wise thing to do. Just use the application and DISABLE Windows Messenger, rather than installing. What hurt could it cause? it’s free.
