MemberHi all,
In my last post, thanx to PatnDoris, I thought I fixed all my probs. Well, sort of…life wasn’t meant to be easy.
http://www.igmarkets.com.au was doing okay (sort of), which was my main concern. I’m happy that I have to type and re-type the URL a few times before the website opens. Sometimes, I need to close a browser, open a new one, and re-type the URL before it opens. It’s a hassle, at least, it works. Actually, when I log in, the format the page loads usually (9 out of 10 times) would be all screwed up. Hitting the refresh would fix the format.
Hotmail is doing similar thing.
And so is Yahoo mail, except a bit worse. With Igmarkets and hotmail, it may take 6 or 7 re-types of URL before it open, but once it opens, it’s working ok.
Yahoo Mail take more effort to open. And once it opens, I’ve got this page with the following error message:
“Ooops. Yahoo!7 Mail can’t load
Loading Yahoo! Mail failed due to a client side error
You might try going into your firewall settings, and disabling “Ad blocking”. If that doesn’t work, please contact customer care.
Try clearing your browser cache
Try clearing your browser cookies
Taking too long? More info
If you received an ActiveX warning, please enable ActiveX
Check your email in Yahoo!7 Mail Classic
Switch back to Yahoo!7 Mail Classic
by opting out of Yahoo!7 Mail
Click here to try again”I don’t think it’s an “Ad blocking” issue, as I have no prob with hotmail (once it opens). I also use quite a few other software that have ads, and they have ABSOLUTELY no issue. Unless Yahoo’s ad is somehow different.
I tried clearing everything. It makes no different. I regularly clear cache and cookies (crumbs), I’m a obscessive compulsive cleaner.
I received no ‘Active X’ error messgae.
I clicked on “Click here to try again” link. It’s useless EVERY TIME.
The only thing that works was “Switch back to Yahoo!7 Mail Classic”, which sort of work. At least, i can read the mails (if i’m lucky), even though the format were all screwed up.
By the way, all other websites I have used (which are many many many) give me no prob. they open right away. Just these three – that I know of and use a lot – give me this page loading prob.
Why just these three websites? What do they have in common? The only things common is that I use them the most! Does that mean the PC’s way of a protest for making it work overtime on these websites???
Another thing that I thought I should mention may shed some light on this mystery. When I type in the URL for these three sites, I get a “window Live Search” page. But when I open it by way of the bookmark in favourite, I get a “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage” error message, instead. Window Live Search didn’t launch.
Thanx in advance,
L&L

ParticipantAre you by any chance using AVG as your anti-virus software?
May 26, 2009 at 6:19 pm #174819LveAndLearn
MemberNo. I use Trend Micro Internet Security.
On some occassions, I also get “Address not Valid” error message when I type an URL into a new browser window…Don’t know if this also ties in with all these weird page loading prob…

ParticipantI’m going to take a chance the IE plugin for Trend Protect (online site safety) is running. See if you can find anything to do with it and temporarily disable it. Also, ensure that your IE phishing filter is off – it can slow things down as well. In theory they are both great ideas, but in practice I’ve personally had issues with both.
My goal first off is to get pages to load straight away. Display issues can come later. I’m not sure on the Trend Protect, but if it’s like the AVG Watchdog plugin – it can keep pages from loading and also result in the pages not found. As soon as I disabled it on several machines, they opened pages with no further problems. It’s a long shot but worth a try.

MemberI don’t have Trend Protect (probably only in the Pro version).
I disable phishing filter with no noticable different…sigh…

ParticipantDo you have another browser such as Firefox or Chrome that you can use to test these sites on this machine? If they open OK in another browser then the problem is related to IE and you could try resetting IE completely by going to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Reset from the main menu in IE.
This should disable any BHO’s/plugins that you may have loaded, reset any security settings, deletes temp files, etc. If you’ve done lots of tweaking it may not be the solution you want to try. It may also cause you to lose saved logins to web pages (I’m not sure) so if you need to make note of them I’d do so before trying this.
If the pages won’t open in another browser there is likely more going on and I wouldn’t bother with the IE reset just yet.

MemberI reset my IE, didn’t seem to do any good.
I installed Google Chrome, trying to see if this is a IE-only prob.
It doesn’t seem to be. The Chrome has this occassional hiccups on opening these pages, too. But Chrome did give a more meaning error messgage that seems to shed more light (not to me though):“DNS error – can’t find server”
“Oops! This link appears to be broken”Does it mean much to you?
May 27, 2009 at 12:19 pm #174816Doris Kenney
ParticipantMore meaningful yes, but still can be a couple of reasons for it.
in IE go to Tools/Internet Options/Connections/LAN settings and see if “Automatically Detect Settings” is checked. If it is, you can uncheck it and try your sites again.
Let me know if this helps at all. I’ve had to do this with pages that started acting up in Chrome.

MemberI also tried to ping all the websites (even the one that opens ok, lke google) and all I got back were “General failures” messages. Don’t know if this means anything at all.

MemberI unchecked “Automatically Detect Settings” and didn’t see any difference.
Also, apart from the intermitten page/loading problem with Yahoo. When I tried to open yahoo Mail via the yahoo home page Yahoo! -> http://www.yahoo.com/r/l4, I have NOT once, able to open Yahoo mail from there. This isn’t intermitten. It’s certain (at least something is consistent for a change). I have a better chance log into Yahoo mail with my bookmarked URL:
https://login.yahoo.com/config/login_verify2?&.src=ym&rl=1A few tries are needed, but at least, I’ve got in eventually.
Don’t know if this info is of any use…May 27, 2009 at 2:08 pm #174817Doris Kenney
ParticipantParticular page problems can be a result of many things and it’s often hard to figure out. It can range from a server side error (which I don’t think this is) to browser related, ISP/modem/router or malware related.
If you’ve not already done so up to this point, I would suggest a complete reboot of your modem/router for good measure. If you’ve already tried this then it’s not worth doing again.
In this case, I’m leaning towards browser issues. Browser issues are generally easy enough to clean up but I can’t go about it the way I would prefer. So, let’s try something that may or may not help but you need to be aware of what it will do. I’m going to suggest first resetting IE from Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Reset. Please read this MS KB article to see what will be reset so you will be aware of what changes will be made. This isn’t something to do lightly if you’ve done a lot of tweaking. If you generally run with standard IE settings then it will not be a bid deal outside of the fact you will also lose your saved website logins (please be aware of this in case this will present a problem). Plugins will be disabled, but not removed. Then try your pages again. If they load fine you can skip the next step. If they don’t then it would be worth a try.
Then run ATF Cleaner which will clean out more temp files, cookies and cache files than you thought possible on your machine. (Just use the “select all” button.) This is all kinds of temp files and caches not just IE. It’s normal for your machine to take longer to reboot the first couple of times after using ATF cleaner.
Then, for display of issues make sure you have the latest Flash and Java versions installed.
I’m really running out of ideas here. I’ve had page specific issues before that have been the result of something totally unexpected – and there have been times I’ve spent hours and hours tracking down the mystery culprit. I know you must be very frustrated at this point, and with good reason. Let me know if this helps at all.

MemberI tried all of above: reset IE7, spring clean with CClean, etc.
It worked a little better at first, but got worse a hours later!!!
I decided to do what I have done a few times before, uninstalled Yahoo Messenger for one more and the LAST time!!!!
Everything seems to work okay again…relatively speaking. I was able to open Yahoo & IGmarkets pages with usually less 2 tries (good enuff).
But i still get this email format problem that I meantioned before, the format in my Yahoo mail pages has all screwed up. I believe this is a totally different issue than the page loading issue (which I consider case closed. I’m not going to spend another day on it. i can only have so many wrinkles on my face and so many greys on my head).
Any idea?
